High School football Saturday morning rewind

There were some real close ones last night and a few blowouts along the way and as far as our picks go we were 9-1 with the one loss being the Eastern Guilford win over Southeast Guilford. Paul Lambeth has that game covered here at the site and back to our picks, we were off on some of the scores, but you have to admit that we were right there on many of the close ones.

Paul has the EG-SEG game for us and I was so close to taking Eastern and every week I mention the big three with QB Jason Davis, RB Gerrod Herbin, and kicker Will Gann and EG coach Scott Loosemore has done a whale of a job with those Wildcats. I spoke to one Guilford County official last night and he said, “Can you imagine what Eastern would have been like if of all the players that were supposed to be there had stayed at EG”? They would have been much like a pro team, I told him.

PagePirates44 has the inside on the Pirates’ big win over Northeast Guilford:
Page 36, NE Guilford 7

Page had the football first marched down the field and fumbled on the 15 yard line. NE took the ball all the way up the field on the after the Page fumble for a TD.
After that the Page defense shut down the NE offense the rest of the night.

Will Newman picked apart the NE defense, and K/P Matt Millisor had 2 40+ yard Field Goals and kicked the ball through the endzone on almost every kick off.(I think that last FG by Millisor was for 48 yards)

Great game by the Pirates all around. Good Luck to the Rams of NE Guilford the rest of the way.

Jim from out in the Northern Guilford area had this score for us last night:
Northern Guilford 40
Eastern Randolph 14

To touch on Jim’s game, we said yesterday that if you go back to the NG JV year of 2007, they were very strong with the players that they had then and they have added talent this year, and you can not under estimate the power of Johnny Roscoe’s coaching. He has the knowledge and experience. Last night Mohamed Kellah rushed for three TD’s and QB Rocco Scarfone threw for 2 touchdown strikes, one to Christian McCain and the other to Keenan Allen. Kellah ran for over 225 yards for the Nighthawks.

Let’s move on to the Dudley Panther’s game down at Richmond County. Dudley came home the winner 19-14 over the RC Raiders after trailing 14-13 late in the game. This was a huge win for Dudley as they beat a major opponent on the road in a hostile environment. The people that I talked to last night, that attended the game, said Dudley didn’t have any passing game, but that they had plenty of running with QB Ricky Lewis Jr. and Fred Overby controlling the ground game. Dudley’s defense and line game in particular were the difference and a blocked punt by the Panthers ended up winning the ballgame for them. Dudley, (2-0) faces (2-0) Grimsley, at Jamieson Stadium next week.

Ragsdale and Northwest Guilford both pulled out one-point wins as the Tigers took care of Southwest Guilford 21-20 and NWG stopped WG 14-13. Our Ragsdale insider, Lee, said that the SWG game would be much closer than everyone including me thought, and Lee was right on the money. SWG QB Davis Inman shredded the Tiger defense for 225 yards passing and Coach Norwood’s kids were glad to get out of High Point with a win to go (2-0). Ragsdale was down 14-0 at one stage of the first half before the comeback surge went into effect. Northwest improved to (2-0) with the one-point victory over WG. The Vikings are off to their best start in years and they go to Jamestown next Friday to face the unbeaten RHS Tigers.

Southern Guilford got three TD’s from Scotty Wayne and quarterback Darren Garcia had another solid outing as the Storm thundered and rolled past Randleman 37-0. SG moves to (2-0) on the season and Southern plus Eastern equals two of the better 2-A teams in the state of North Carolina right here in Guilford County.

We don’t have details on some of our other county contests but we had Greg Johnson at Simeon Stadium last evening, and Greg had our High Central Bison score with HPC over Burlington Williams 35-14, with Bison QB Drew Adams having another big night and we heard that Desmeion Kennedy hauled in one catch for a score. High Point Andrews blasted Smith 41-0 at Claude Manzi Stadium last night.

Just a little more from that Page 36-7 win over NEG. The Pirates were down early 7-0 and out-scored the Rams 36-0 the rest of the way to secure the win with excellent defense and 222 yards rushing and 133 passing helped pave the way to the victory. That’s outstanding balance by the Pirates and again their defense locks it down to help grab the “W”. Having the best kicker in the state, Matt Millisor, doesn’t hurt their chances one bit either. Page has Southern Lee in their home-opener next Friday and the Dudley Panthers are waiting in the wings.

A quick run down of our picks again shows the week two record of 9-1 with Grimsley topping ND, Page over NEG, NWG past WG, Ragsdale beats SWG, HPA takes out Smith, Southern rolls, Dudley wins on the road, HPC blasts Burlington Williams, Northern curshes ER, and our only slip up was SEG going down at EG.

Back to fields for all on Monday.

+++++More from PagePirates44:
Will Newman had about 5 or 6 plays where he escaped sacks and got big yardage with his legs or found a open receiver. On one passing play, he takes a 3 step drop out of the shotgun, the offensive line moves back into pass coverage. Will sees that the NE D-line gets a bit too close, and moves up out of the pocket and just turns on the jets and picks up 30 yards on a run.

NE has a lack of depth on the O and D lines, and they are small. The QB is inexperienced but the RB, Reyshawn Trader i think his name is, is a stud.+++++

*****from Mark on the Ragsdale/SWG game:
That Ragsdale – SWG game was a heart stopper. Mistakes and penalties hurt Ragsdale most of the night but they battled back from 0-14 to win. Huge blocked PAT by Walt Sparks on SWG last TD and CaseY Redfern came up big nailing all three of his to get the win. Ragsdale was backed up to their own five yard line with five minutes to play but managed to drive the field and score.

SWG refused to quit. Their QB hit two big pass plays to get them a first and goal but then made a mistake on a fade route that Ragsdale picked off in the end one.*****

    Das Booooot!

  4. can’t wait 2 see NE take on EG this friday, I got a feeling that EG might pull out a win. What do yall think?

  5. Sam, I have to agree with you.

I think you have to go with Eastern Guilford and Coach Scott Loosemore until they lose.

The ‘Cats are on a roll and they are home again on Friday for the third straight week as they face NEG and you have to stay with the ‘Cats because this just might be the Year of the ‘Cats.

Southeast Guilford had four players carted off of the field and they ended up in the hospital on Friday night. We’ll have more later.

All of the injured Falcons were low on fluids and they were suffering severe cramps.
