Guilford College Athletics Update 9-5-08

Guilford’s volleyball team dropped two matches at the Greensboro College Invitational Tournament Friday. The Quakers fell to the host Pride in their first match,, 3-0. Anna Miller’s nine kills and Mary Moody’s nine digs led the way. In the nightcap, Guilford dropped a close 3-1 decision to Lynchburg College despite Miller’s 11 kills and 10 digs. Taylor Phillips chipped in 32 assists and 11 digs in day’s the second contest. The Quakers’ football team opens the 2008 season Saturday evening against Greensboro College in the 12th annual Gate City Soup Bowl. Guilford returns an experienced squad with 13 starters returning. The Quakers carry a three-game winning streak into their annual rivalry game. Fans gain admission for no charge if they bring at least two nonperishable foodstuffs. Both Guilford and Greensboro Colleges are conducting food drives in conjunction with the Soup Bowl for the benefit of the Servant Center of Greensboro and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
