Fayetteville, N.C. (9-17-08) – Evan Monteiro scored twice and Bret Brennan added a goal and an assist in host Methodist University’s 4-0 nonconference men’s soccer win over Guilford College Wednesday.

Monteiro got the Monarchs (2-4) on the board 22:40 into the match when he finished a corner kick started by Brion Kelly and Mike Demara. He doubled the hosts lead 7:33 into the second half by knocking home the rebound of a missed clear off one of the Monarchs’ five corner kicks.

Brennan tallied just under five minutes later off a James Gunderson cross and Julian Hart closed the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 87th minute.

Methodist goalie Kyle Beach made seven saves for the shutout. Guilford netminder Peter Truitt had four stops.

The Quakers (0-5) open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday at league newcomer Randolph College at 4:00 p.m.
