State-Wide Top Ten:
#1 TIE: Wake Forest(2-0) and East Carolina(3-0)…Wake was open last week and travels to meet Florida State in a key ACC matchup this Saturday. Speaking of ACC, ECU will be in Raleigh to face the Wolfpack of N.C. State. These games will go a long way in determining next week’s top spot in the Poll.

#3) North Carolina(2-0)…Winners on the road at Rutgers and back home in Kenan Stadium this Saturday to lock it up with Virginia Tech. Continue to keep an eye on Bradon Tate out of Burlington Cummings HS.

#4) Appalachian State(1-1)…The Mountaineers were off last week and now they take to the road to take on James Madison up in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

#5) Duke(2-1)…Only five points away from an unbeaten season and they pulled off their assignment with the 41-31 win over Navy last Saturday and now the Blue Devils have this week off to celebrate.

#6) Elon(2-1)…Crushed Presbyterian 66-12 with Bo Williamson and Scott Riddle having a field day for the Phoenix and this week Elon travels down to Statesboro, Georgia to take on the Eagles of Georgia Southern.

#7) Wingate(3-0)…The Bulldogs got the best of the Braves as they bested UNC-Pembroke 23-16 last Saturday to put up one of the best starts in the state at three wins-no losses.

#8) Guilford(2-0)…The Quakers also start strong and hang on to win last weekend at home over Methodist 34-33.

#9) N.C. A&T(2-1)…The Aggies nearly pulled it out falling 27-21 to the Spartans of Norfolk State and now A&T will return to the Tidewater area to battle Hampton University this Saturday.

#10) UNC-Pembroke(2-1)…UNCP fell 23-16 to Wingate but the Braves are still off to a solid start and who’s to say it will not continue. UNCP will be playing UNCC(now known as just Charlotte) in 2012 when the 49’ers start up their program from scratch.

  • Andy said,

We welcome our friends from Appalachian State and chide in with, do it one Moore time; and keep David Jackson, Randy Jackson, and Steve Brown busy as the Apps face the Dukes of JMU.

Locally in the Triad on 790AM.
