College Golf Results – Guilford Takes Second At Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Murray State University finished with a three-round score of 868 after posting a 290 in the third round to clinch the title at the Sea Trail Men’s Intercollegiate. Guilford College climbed two places and claimed second place spot after tallying a 284 on Sunday for a final score of 878. Belmont-Abbey College (302-290-288) and tournament host Elon University (299-298-283) shared third place, each posting a final score of 880. James Madison University shot a 283 in the third round to move into fifth place with a final score of 885.

Elon’s Steve Dressel took home medalist honors after shooting a three-under-par 69 on Sunday for a three-round score of 212 (69-74-69). Murray State’s Hunter Ford (71-70-73) took second-place after a scorecard playoff with Tennessee Tech’s Greyson Painter (73-69-72). Both posted a total score of 214. Chase Carroll of Tusculum College (71-76-68—215) posted a four-under-par 68 in the third round to shared fourth place with Wofford College’s Garrett Medeiros (72-72-71—215).

The Quakers were the lone NCAA Division III team in the field. Junior Brian Creghan paced Guilford with a three-day 216, which shared sixth place among individuals. Teammate Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) carded his second straight 69, which moved him to 11th place among 96 contestants with a 54-hole 217. Junior teammate Peter Latimer shot 72 Sunday and finished tied for 23rd with a 221. Senior Burton Wood also shot 72 Sunday and placed 51st with a 227. Guilford freshman Jeff Boyan (High Point, N.C./Ledford) shot 229 and finished 57th.

Guilford, ranked 12th in the preseason GolfWorld/Nike Golf NCAA Division III Coaches’ Poll, returns to action Sept. 29 at the Greensboro College Invitational at Bryan Park G.C.
