Greensboro, N.C. — Guilford College women’s basketball coach Stephanie Flamini announced the schedule for the 2008-09 season Tuesday. The slate features an exhibition game with UNC Greensboro, the second annual Guilford College Tip-off Tournament and nonconference matchups with Warner Southern College and Webber International University on the Quakers’ first trip to Florida. The schedule includes 13 home dates.
The Quakers open the season Nov. 8 with an exhibition game at UNCG. The NCAA Division I Spartans finished last season 7-24 after falling to Chattanooga in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. The meeting marks the first between the two teams since 1988-89.
Guilford hosts its second annual Guilford College Tip-off Tournament Nov. 21-22, which also includes the talents of Roanoke College, Meredith College and SUNY Purchase (N.Y.). Meredith, which boasted a 13-11 record last season, won the 2007-08 Association of Division III Independents Northeast Region Championship.
The Quakers head south for December matchups against NAIA-members Warner Southern and Webber International. Warner Southern finished 9-21 last year. Webber International concluded its season with a 76-61 loss to Northwood College in the Florida Sun Conference Tournament championship game. The Warriors finished the season with a 15-11 overall record.
Guilford welcomes back all 12 students from last year’s roster, including two-time Second Team All-Old Dominion Conference (ODAC) forward Tracey Croner. The Quakers added six newcomers who improve the team’s depth. Last year’s squad finished 11-14 overall, 6-14 in the ODAC. The ODAC Tournament will be held Feb. 27-March 1 at the Salem (Va.) Civic Center.
