Kasey Kahne Comes Back to Kansas

The ROCK has not come back to Kansas, it is Kasey Kahne who is coming back to Kansas for this week’s Nationwide Series Race.

Kasey Kahne returns behind-the-wheel of the Gillett Evernham Motorsports No. 9 Nationwide Series entry and is looking to make another trip to victory lane in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway.

In 2005 at Kansas, Kahne led 11 laps and took the Ragu Dodge to victory lane marking the team’s first NASCAR Nationwide Series victory.

Since the inaugural victory, GEM has visited victory lane four more times with Kahne.

Kahne is hoping for win number six on Saturday at the 1.5-mile speedway.

“Kansas means a lot to both GEM and I,” said Kahne. “Back in 2005, we were able to race our way to victory and earn GEM its first win in that Series. It would be awesome if we could get another victory there. I think it’s a fun track and it’s a group of fans we don’t get around as much as we would like.”

Originally Kansas wasn’t on Kahne’s schedule of seven races in the GEM No. 9 ride. But this weekend was added to replace the March Las Vegas race which Kahne missed due to illness.

“I wasn’t able to run their race at Vegas because I had a sinus infection but I wanted to make that up to them this weekend at Kansas,” Kahne said.

Saturday’s race will mark a milestone for Kahne who will make his 150th career Nationwide Series start.

Kahne has made eight Nationwide starts this season and led 29 laps, earned one top five and four top-10 finishes. He has two top-five and four top 10 starts. The No. 9 team is 16th in owner points.
