A&T’s Wiley died of Heat Stroke Complications

The News and Record’s Rob Daniels reported on Saturday that North Carolina A&T football player Chad Wiley died in May due to complications from a Heat Stroke.

Wiley collapsed during a voluntary workout on May 27 and died the next day at Moses Cone Hospital. The state medical examiner’s report, released on Friday, also said that Wiley had a sickle-cell trait which also contributed to his death.

All trainers should have immediate access to an ice compression vest to quickly lower the athlete’s core body temperature while transporting to an emergency room. Minutes make the difference between recovery, partial impairment, and death.
