State-wide College Football Top Ten

State-Wide Top Ten:
#1 Wake Forest(3-1)…The Demon Deacons got down to Navy 17-0 early, and then could not come back all the way falling 24-14, with four interceptions from WFU QB Riley Skinner, and now the Deacs have their second open date of the season coming up this Saturday.

#2) North Carolina(3-1)…The Heels got the big road win 28-24 at Miami and they have climbed up to the number two spot in the poll and this week they will try and stay on a roll with Connecticut(5-0) rolling into Chapel Hill.

#3) Duke(3-1)…This is the team that is really rolling after that 31-3 whipping of Virginia at Wallace Wade Stadium and now the Blue Devils take their winning show on the road to Georgia Tech(3-1) for a Saturday showdown with the Yellow Jackets.

#4) Wingate(5-0)…The Bulldogs beat Tusculum last Saturday 37-33 and now, they are to our remote knowledge, the only unbeaten college team left in the state of North Carolina. They are Da ‘Dogs, and this week they face Brevard way up in the North Carolina mountains.

#5) Elon(4-1)…It was subtraction by addition this week for Elon. They added another win, but they fell in our poll after struggling to beat Samford 23-17 and the Phoenix better get ready for this week with the Furman Paladins(4-1) heading into Elon for a big-time Southern Conference matchup.

#6) East Carolina(3-2)…The ECU Pirates have had problems handling that (3-0) start after dropping their second straight contest this past Saturday 41-24 to Houston in Greenville. Next week(October 11) the Pirates travel to face the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Virginia.

#7) Appalachian State(2-2)…The Mountaineers saw Presbyterian come to Boone and earn an early 7-0 advantage over ASU, and at the half it was only 17-14 Apps, but in the second they opened things up and went on to win 48-14 over the Blue Hose. This week the Mountaineers will play host to The Citadel Bulldogs(3-1). It’s Homecoming for ASU…..

#8) UNC-Pembroke(4-1)…The Braves strike again with a 28-14 win over Lane College of Tennessee, Fred Lane’s old school, and now Not Mr. Melvin’s old school(UNC-P) will face Webber International(0-4) on Saturday.

#9) Fayetteville State(4-1)…FSU tripped up Virginia State 23-13 and the Broncos are home this week to mix it up with Chowan.

#10) Catawba(3-1)…The Indians stopped Mars Hill 24-7 and now make the trek down to South Carolina to battle Newberry.

    I was going to give an update on the worst team in the state, but the Campbell Fighting Camels WON!!! they beat the Carthage Red Men36-27 in Kenosha , Wis. The Camels are treking to Ohio this week to take on the Dayton Flyers.

    UNC-Penbroke Braves are unstoppable!! And UNC basketball fans, I know you’re scared…. UNCP vs UNC-CH basketball on November 8. Loser has to drop UNC from their name!!

  2. Coach Joe Reich, brother of former Buffalo QB Frank doing a good job. My boy played at Wingate with alot of other triad players. mahler from page, 4 or 5 from eastern randolph. Wingate is solid. saw Duke last week. It was a beautiful day. Walked right in. sat down and streched out and saw some acc football. va. not very godd. Duke not bad. Cutcliff….SUPER!!!

  4. We received a call from the Wingate Bulldogs Atheltic Department this morning and they wanted to remind everybody that they are the ONLY unbeaten college football team in the state.
