College Men’s Soccer Final – Guilford 0, Lynchburg 0 (OT)

Greensboro, N.C. (10/01/08) – Guilford College and Lynchburg College battled to a 0-0 draw in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match at Haworth Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (7-2-1, 2-0-1 ODAC) entered the match ranked fourth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Region Rankings and extended their unbeaten streak to three matches.

The Hornets and Quakers (1-7-1, 1-2-1 ODAC) both struggled for offense in the first half, combining for only nine shots in the opening period. The Hornets’ Jordan Clark had one of the half’s best chances as his shot nailed the crossbar with nine minutes to play in the half.

Lynchburg outshot the Quakers, 10-5, in the second half, but rookie Guilford goalkeeper Peter Truitt stood tall with six of his nine saves in the frame. He recorded his first college shutout in the game. The Quakers’ defense helped out with three back saves, including one in the final minute of overtime off of Pat Brown’s header.

The Hornets owned a 19-12 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Lynchburg goalie Matt Sturdivant made with eight saves. Josh Reed and Cam Smith led the Hornets’ attack with three shots, while Jordan Alexander and Hugh Griffis both shot four times for Guilford.
