Guilford Hosts Southern Virginia in Rare Friday Night Game

Editor’s Note – Andy Durham discussed this at length on the 10-02 Football in Focus Show.

Guilford College’s football team takes a 2-2 record into a rare Friday night home game against nonconference foe Southern Virginia University at 7 p.m. at Armfield Athletic Center.

The game is being played on a Friday to accommodate commitments Southern Virginia (1-4) has to a general conference on Saturday sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The university serves the Latter Day Saint community.

The Quakers opened with two home wins but have lost a pair on the road, including a 35-14 ODAC setback at Hampden-Sydney College last Saturday.

In last week’s game, Josh Vogelbach ’09 set NCAA Division III career records for pass completions, attempts and 300-yard games, but could not overcome a 28-0 second-quarter deficit. He finished with 383 passing yards on the day.

After the contest against Southern Virginia, Guilford has a week off before hosting ODAC rival Bridgewater College Oct. 18.
