College Volleyball Final – N.C. Wesleyan 3, Guilford 0

Rocky Mount, N.C. (10-7-08) – Sophomore Barbara DeRatt turned in a solid all-around performance Tuesday night in North Carolina Wesleyan College’s 3-0 nonconference win over visiting Guilford College. The set scores from the Bishops’ seventh straight win were 25-22, 25-13, and 25-18. DeRatt hit .455 with five kills, four assists, and one service ace.
With the win, the Bishops improve to 17-6 on the season. Guilford drops to 5-16 overall.

The Bishops grabbed a quick 1-0 set lead as junior Brittany Insley tallied six kills in eight attempts. They increased the lead to 2-0 with a dominant win in the second set behind a .312 team hitting percentage.

The third set saw the Quakers hurt themselves with five kills against five errors in 25 attempts. Mary Moody paced the Quakers in the match with a team-high seven kills.

For North Carolina Wesleyan, Insley finished with a game-high 16 kills, while teammate Leslie Hassell added 10. Mackenzie Tingle dished out 30 assists, and Kelly George collected a game-high 13 digs on defense.

The Bishops will enjoy a seven-day break before returning to action next Wednesday at home versus Meredith College. The Quakers visit Peace College Thursday (10/9) at 7:00 p.m.
