HS Football for Friday night and the AM950 call with updates on area games

This will be week number eight for our area high school football teams and now all of our teams are involved in conference warfare.

Tonight’s AM950 game will involve the Metro 4-A Conference with High Point Central at Grimsley and we will have updates on area games with scores from East Forsyth at Northwest Guilford, Page at Smith, Asheboro at Southeast Guilford, Ragsdale at Trinity, Morehead at Dudley, and Southern Guilford at McMichael…..

As we look at our picks let’s start with the ones we feel like we have a handle on and the firsrt lock would be Western Guilford(3-4), which is Open this week. With WS Carver coming over to Southwest Guilford to take on the winless Cowboys, I will take the Carver Yellowjackets to win this game 34-14.

Morehead visits Dudley(7-0) and the Morehead Panthers have yet to win in 2008 so Dudley gets set to roll again, 48-0 Dudley Panthers. Page might be ready to call off the troops by halftime, then they would get a chance to rest up the charges for next week’s big game at Grimsley, and the Pirates defeat the Smith Golden Eagles 49-7.

Unbeaten Charlotte Christian at Northern Guilford and even though NG has Christian McCain, Maurice Harris, Keenan Allen and Rocky Scarfone, I’ll still take the unbeaten team as Charlotte beats Guilford County in the Northern sector, 35-21. Ragsdale at Trinity and the Tigers should not be ready to lay down and roll over yet. Ragsdale(7-0) over the Trinity Bulldogs, 42-13.

Eastern Guilford(6-0) at WS Atkins to battle the Camels and the EG Wildcats are still smoking and tonight they’ll smoke the Camels as Eastern and Coach Scott Loosemore enter the Non-filter Zone and still roll one up on the Camels winning 31-14 to move on to (7-0) with Reidsville due up next week with the Rams having several players whose parents used to work for the American Tobacco Company.

With Kernersville Glenn heading over to High Point Andrews that means Raiders have to win this game to get back on track and to open up conference play with a victory. HPA over Glenn with Tony Washington having a huge game and hopefully QB Jordan Reid returning and the score:28-10 HPA. Northeast Guilford at Western Alamance and the NEG Rams have been playing much better with back-to-back wins, but at Western with Warrior QB Donald Britt giving the opposition a fit, WA will sit NEG with a loss, Western Alamance over NEG 21-10.

East Forsyth and the Eagles’ quarterback Danny O’Brien travel over from Kernersville to take on the Northwest Guilford Vikings and the Eagles have too much offense for the NWG defense and win over the Vikings 34-22. High Point Central and the Black Watch Defense at Grimsley to meet the Whirlies in Metro 4-A action and HPC has too much “D” and they will beat Grimsley 28-7. Asheboro comes up 220 and heads over to Highway 421 to face Southeast Guilford and let’s just hope that Tivon Clark is back for the Falcons so they can win this one 17-13 and get back in the mix in the Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference.

The Southern Guilford Storm will take one of the longest rides in team history when they head up 220 North to face McMichael in Madison. It has been a tumultuos week for Southern after the death of #23 Scotty Wayne and the injury to QB Darren Garcia and it will be very hard for the Storm to re-group quickly after all that they have experienced this past week. I do believe that when all is said and done, McMichael will win the game, but out of respect for Southern Guilford, I’m not listing a score and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Southern Guilford team and to their entire commuinty.
