State-wide College Football Top Ten

State-Wide Top Ten:
#1 North Carolina(5-1)…Is there any stopping Butch Davis and the Kardiac Kenan Kids? This team in on the mark, get set and they’re on the go early, with the win over the Irish and the Heels are doing it with in-state players such as Draughn from Tarboro, Sexton from Lumberton, Little from Durham and Nicks from Charlotte. Not bad, but they will miss Tate from Burlington….The Heels are on the road this week going up to Charlottesville to face the Cardiac Cavaliers(3-3) at UVA, another ACC team that has found new life.

#2) Wake Forest(4-1)…The Demon Deacons just don’t get no respect. They beat Clemson and all everybody is talking about is Tommy Bowden getting fired. I had Terry Don Phillips for a class in Sports Theory back in college and all TD cares about is saving his own hide. But enough about those guys, “How about Dem Deacons”????? Remember this is the Triad’s Team and they did it with a back-up kicker in the win over Clemson. BoManti Jones just said this very morning on 620 the Bull that Jim Grobe is the best football coach in the ACC and Grobe might just be the best coach, no matter what sport you are talking about, in the ACC. Wake this week will be at Maryland(4-2), Saturday at noon.

#3) Elon(6-1)…How can we rank this team below Appalachian at this stage of the season? Elon is beating everyone(6-1/4-0). The Phoenix sit at (4-0) in the SoCon and they just beat The Citadel 27-23, on the road down in Charleston. Elon is #1 and the faceoff with ASU is coming up on November 15 and you better go ahead and get your tickets now and Elon has to be very careful as they travel to Chattanooga to meet the Mocs(1-6/0-3) this Saturday. There are plenty of teams waiting to knock off Scott Riddle, Terrell Hudgins, Bo Williamson and company before they get to Boone.

#4) Wingate(7-0)…The Bulldogs beat the Bears of Lenior Rhyne 35-27 last week and Wingate is still the only unbeaten team remaining in North Carolina, South Carolina or Virginia according to the North Pole, a small sports restaurant just outside Yanceyville before you get to the Virginia border. The North Pole has a weekly poll that ranks and studies all the Tri-State area college teams. This week for the Bulldogs it’s #25 Newberry down in South Carolina.

#5) Appalachian State(4-2)…It is hard to drop our teams when they keep on winning and that’s exactly what Appalachian keeps on doing, with last Saturday’s 35-24 win at Samford, Alabama another fine feather in QB Armanti Edwards cap. Three TD passes and one running score for Edwards against the Bullgdogs and 307 yards through the air. This week the Mountaineers will travel again to face the Eagles of Georgia Southern(3-3) down in Statesboro, Georgia.

#6) UNC-Pembroke(6-1)…The Braves whipped West Virginia Wesleyan 36-14 last Saturday and now they host the Tigers from Edward Waters(2-4) in the Braves’ Homecoming this Saturday. The second-year Braves lost to EW 31-28 last season and now they seek revenge as they get ready to hit the welcome-back warriors warpath this weekend.

#7) Duke(3-2)…The Blue Devils were off last weekend and now they will be home again hosting the Miami Hurricanes(3-3/0-2) this Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium.

#8) East Carolina(3-3)…The Pirates have hit a bit of a snag losing to Virginia 35-20 last Saturday and now the Pirates have to get set to face Tommy West and his (4-4) Memphis Tigers coming to Greenville this weekend.

#9) Fayetteville State(5-2)…FSU fell to Shaw last Sunday afternoon 19-12 and now the Broncos prepare for Homecoming this Saturday versus Johnson C. Smith.

#10) Guilford(3-2)…The Quakers are back in action after the fall break and this week they’ll be taking on Bridgewater(2-3) at home at 1pm on Saturday.
