Guilford College Mens Golf Takes Second at Oglethorpe Invitational

OAKWOOD, Ga. (10-21-08) – Guilford College placed second among 12 teams at the Oglethorpe Royal Lakes Invitational Tuesday in Oakwood, Ga. The Quakers shot a 10-over-par 286-292-578 and finished one stroke behind the host Stormy Petrels. Oglethorpe’s Matt Rebitch (72-68-140) took home medalist honors with a three-under 68 Tuesday, which gave him a one-stroke win over Rhodes College’s Doug Gordon (71-70-141).

Guilford senior Burton Wood (Siler City, N.C./Jordan-Matthews) shot one-over 70-73-143 for the tournament and placed fifth among individuals. Junior teammate Peter Latimer was one stroke back at 72-72-144.

The Quakers, ranked sixth in the Oct. 15 Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll, host the Tom and Bettie O’Briant Memorial Tournament Oct. 27-28 at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
