State-Wide Top Ten:
#1 Elon(7-1)…This is the hottest team in the state after their 42-7 decision over Chattanooga last Saturday up in Tennessee and now the Phoenix must prepare for their toughest game of the year at home this week versus Wofford(5-1/3-0). The schedule goes Wofford at Elon, Wofford at Appalachian and then Elon at Appalachian, so fasten your seatbelts. Three TD passes by QB Scott Riddle against the Mocs and was that Willie Gault’s son Jare Gault quarterbacking Chattanooga?(Checked on the Gaults and no relation.)

#2) North Carolina(5-2) The Heels fall in OT again at Virginia 16-13 and now they host Boston College this Saturday at noon in Kenan Stadium in what might be the most beautiful setting in the world to watch a fall football game, unless you just got a ticket to see Elon vs. Appalachian in Boone on November 15.

#3) Appalachian State(5-2)…SoCon Savagery don’t miss it, and App has not missed a beat this year when it comes to the close and exciting games and last Saturday was no different. The Apps won 37-36 at Georgia Southern and QB Armanti Edwards ran for three scores and he passed for two more and he has now scored 88 SoCon touchdowns and may rank among the the top ten greatest players to ever play football in the state of North Carolina. Edwards had 176 yards passing and 157 rushing last Saturday and this week it’s Furman(6-2/3-1) at Appalachian(5-2/3-0) and you can hear it with David Jackson, Steve Brown, and Randy Jackson on AM790, kickoff time 3:30 in Boone.

#4) Wake Forest(4-2)…As the old tune goes, “You better get your junk together”, and Wake has to do it in a hurry after getting messed up 26-0 at Maryland. It’s bad enough to lose, but to get shut out, that hurts, and this Saturday Wake has to go down to Miami and face the Hurricanes and that won’t be easy.

#5) UNC-Pembroke(7-1)…The Braves just beat Edward Waters 43-8 and now UNC-P is off this week and faces Concord on November 1.

#6) Wingate(7-1)…The Bulldogs dropped their first game of the season 32-21 to Newberry and now get ready to host the Catawba Indians(4-3) on Saturday.

#7) East Carolina(4-3)…The Pirates topped Tommy West and his Memphis Tigers 30-10 in Greenville last Saturday and ECU is now off this weekend and meets Central Florida on Nov. 2.

#8) Fayetteville State(5-2)…The FSU Broncos ran all over Johnson C. Smith 48-3 and now travel to the face the Saint Augustine’s Falcons in Raleigh.

#9) Shaw(5-3)…The Bears beat FSU two weeks ago and last week they continued the onslaught destroying Chowan 68-13 and now the Bears visit Salisbury to tangle with Livingstone this Saturday.

#10) Elizabeth City State(5-3)…ECS buried Lincoln, PA 70-6 to enter our poll for the first time this season and now the Vikings will play host to St. Pauls out of Lawrenceville, Virginia this Saturday in a huge Homecoming game for ECS.
