College Women’s Soccer Final – Washington and Lee 6, Guilford 0

LEXINGTON, Va. (11-1-08) – Anne Van Devender scored three goals to lead third-seeded Washington and Lee University past sixth-seeded Guilford College, 6-0, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals Saturday.

The Generals (13-4) advance to play the winner of the quarterfinal contest between second-seeded Lynchburg College and number-seven Randolph-Macon College. The Quakers end their season with an 8-12 overall record.

Van Devender scored the Generals’ first two goals and staked the hosts to a 2-0 halftime lead. Washington and Lee outshot Guilford, 17-1, in the first half, but Guilford goalie Amber Stapler made eight saves to keep the Quakers around. Van Devender completed a natural hat trick 4:27 into the second half with an unassisted tally that effectively put the game out of reach.

Washington and Lee ended up with a 32-5 edge in shots. Kiki Moreo made three saves in goal for the shutout. Stapler left the game in the second half, giving way to rookie Kat Adams, who made seven saves in just under 35 minutes.
