East Forsyth Outlasts Grimsley 38-31 In OT

In a game with 4 ties and 4 lead changes Danny O’Brian threw for two scores and ran for two others to pace East Forsyth to a 38-31 victory in Kernersville Friday night against the visiting Grimsley Whirlies.

The result negated a valiant effort from the Whirlies. Especially Josh Patterson who had two touchdown passes and Lay Lay Brown who singlehandedly put Grimsley into postition to pull off the upset. His 89yd kickoff return set up a score by Josh Patterson to tie the contest at 24, then on the next possesion Brown stepped in front of a O’Brian pass for a 58yd return for a touchdown to give Grimsley a 31-24 lead late in the contest.

O’Brian however was not going to be denied as he marshalled his troops downfield in the waning moments capping their frenzied final drive with a 6yd run to send the game to an extra session then on East Forsyth’s first possesion of the extra period O’Brian went over again this time on a 2yd plunge on 4th and goal to give East the winning score. The Eagle defense preserving the win by holding the Whitlies on downs.
