The Coach’s Corner with Ken Helms of HPC

from Coach Ken Helms, the man who started the “Black Watch” defense at High Point Central. Coach Helms is the defensive coordinator for the HPC Bison.

I was covered up last week and didn’t get a chance to post. We were working hard to get ready for Page, though it may not have showed Friday night. The Pirates had a big night and didn’t have to go to deep into the playbook to get it done. Hats off to Coach G and the rest of the Page squad. Good luck in the playoffs. Our defense had one of those nights, and we made too many simple mistakes to stay in the game against a team like Page.

No time for reflection now however, as we draw the Danny “O” road show this week. It is homecoming for the Bison, and we are excited about the opportunity to gain some redemption. One last chance to tune it up for a possible run into the post season. Page and Northwest should be a head knocker with those big ole lineman. East has a small truck on the left side of their offensive line also, Shrine Bowl pick David Collins. It should be alot of fun.

We didn’t get much love on the Shrine Bowl picks. I sure thought Rick Dowdy should have been a choice. Good luck to the boys that were picked. Go Bison.

  1. To be perfectly honest, I really was expecting more out of the HPC defense. But, I will say that when Page is executing close to 100% on O. The Pirates are tough to stop. It even showed against a great defense like Dudleys.
