Northeast Guilford’s Mitch Atkins added to Chicago Cubs 40-man roster

Mitch Atkins a graduate of Northeast Guilford High School has been added to the Cubs roster after being named their top minor league pitcher in 2008. Things are really looking good for the former NEG Ram who now trains in the off-season with Carmine Pagano at Carolina Acceleration.

Carmine on Mitch:
FYI! One more step up the ladder for this young man. You should see this kid get after it in his off-season workouts – WOW!

Cubs news on Mitch Atkins:
RHP Mitch Atkins, the organization’s minor league pitcher of the year, was among three pitchers added to the 40-man roster. Atkins was 8-1 with a 4.47 ERA in 10 starts with Class AAA (Des Moines) Iowa and 9-6 with a 3.76 ERA at Class AA (Kodak) Tennessee. He won 12 starts in a row between Tennessee and Iowa. The Cubs feel he can help the big club as early as 2009, most likely out of the bullpen. He projects to a No. 3-5 starter down the line.

  1. Congratulations to Mitch Atkins, his family, and all of the coaches, trainers, and teachers that have been a part of his success. It is very exciting as one who has grown up in this county watching and being a part of youth baseball, to see a local young man reach for his dreams and make it to the big dance.

Mitch, know that we are all pulling for you and can’t wait to see you take the mound for the first time in the Big Leagues. If you listen ever so slightly before you throw that first pitch, you may be able to hear the roar from Guilford County cheering you on.

    Best Wishes and Happy Holidays!!!!

  2. Mitch, no-one else wants it more than you. With your desire and work habits I am sure you will succeed. Good luck, reach for the stars.
