HS basketball from Tuesday on the day before tomorrow

The inside from one our readers and the Northern guard who hit those three-pointers was Dylan Berry…

I heard the NEG/Page game time were switched. I called a parent at the game and was shocked to hear the girls game was a low scoring 31-17 with Page coming out on top. Both teams are definitely rebuilding. You forgot to mention Northern/Smith match up. Northern Girls pulled out the win 63-54. Should have been more but I think the first game jitters got to some. The Northern boys blew out Smith but only in the 2nd half. NG was down 5 at half. Those Smith boys have a lot of talent. Hope they put it to good use. NG came into the 2nd half on a 17-2 run in about 4min of play. NG guard(Dillion I think) hit 3 3ptrs in the first 51 seconds in the 3rd qtr. Amazing kid.

from Greensborosports.com:
The Page-NEG times were switched to accommodate Northeast Guilford girls coach Brandon Apple who also coaches for the Ram football team. I got there at the Mac Morris Gym at 6 and the JV game was concluding and the Varsity boys came running out. The girls game was second on the docket.

Boys game Page-NEG final was 78-41 and Jordan Weethe hit some big three-pointers and after a slow start, the Pirates got hot and NEG couldn’t keep up. Julius Brooks had one dunk for Page, but he missed on a one-hand tomahawk dunk that would have brought the house down.

Girls game saw Page in front 5-0 after one quarter and then the Pirates up 17-8 at the half. After three periods it was Page 20-10 and then the final came in at 31-17 Pirates. Chevena Pickard and Brittany Drew were solid for Page and NEG has to get going in early stages of the game. Coach Apple said you aren’t going to win many ball games scoring only 8 points in the first half.

If you know of any games going on tonight please send them our way. Thanks for all the updates we have been receiving.

*****The word I got was that the Dudley boys won by around 13 over Durham Hillside and that in the girls game, Hillside won it on a late shot, and they claimed a one point win over the Lady Panthers.*****

  1. On the dunk that Julius Brooks missed, he jumped from right after the foul line. It would have been up there with one of the biggest dunks I’ve seen at the high school level.
