HS hoops from last night and more tonight at UNCG

Three games highlighted last night’s schedule and it seems like a roller coaster effect has hit the Page Pirates. The boys had the big lead and then lost in OT at Ragsdale last Friday night and then on Tuesday comes the loss at WS Reynolds and now last night the Pirates fall by 20 at home to Mount Tabor, a team they beat on the road last week.

Joe Barile, our Page insider mentioned that Jordan Weethe might have a separated shoulder and who knows how long he will be out????? Julius Brooks only had three last night and was that because of foul trouble?????

Colin Daly comes in and hits for 12, one of my favorite point guards, Mitchell Oates has 12 also, but the Pirates fall, 70-50 to the Spartans of Mt. Tabor. Former Greensboro Day player, Josh Hicks, pumped in 20 to lead Tabor.

The Page girls added to the woes in the Mac Morris Gym last night as they fell to the Spartans 56-40. Page girls down 31-19 at half and out-scored Tabor 14-6 in the 3rd quarter, but couldn’t get it back. A twenty point loss by the boys and a 16 point difference for the girls; Page AD Rusty Lee probably felt like General Robert E. Lee last night when the games were over and Alma Pinnix Drive brought back memories of the Appomattox Court House.

The Grimsley boys continued to surprise coming up with a 20-point win over North Davidson last night. Whirlies 59, Black Knights 39. Coach Darren Corbett has done a great job again with this team.

Coach Stan Kowalewski said last night that Coach Corbett really has a firm grip on what needs to be done at Grimlsey and the Whirlies (7-1) record proves that point.

Another solid effort by the three guys that keep on leading the way for the Whirlies, Kreshawn Williams had 28, Keith Manley 15 and Carter Gourley chipped in 10. From what we hear, Manley also hit the boards hard again with 10-plus rebounds on the night.

The Grimsley girls were not as fortunate as they dropped a close one to ND, 50-47. The Southeast Guilford girls topped Southwest Guilford by 12, 46-34. Paris Alston, who is headed to South Carolina State, led the Falcons with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Brittany Price popped for 10 for SEG, now (7-2) on the season.

The Southeast boys completed the doubleheader sweep for the Falcons over SWG as they came back to defeat the Cowboys 66-51 with the backcourt of Josh Cobb and Trey Artis coming up big and Chuckie Becton and Robert Ware with 12 each were key cogs in the win plus BIG James Pegues played a big role on the inside for SEG. Cobb, the point guard transfer from Dudley led the way for SEG with 23 points while T.J. Hayes had 18 for SWG.

Tonight it’s going to be:
Northwest Guilford VS Eastern Guilford at UNCG…Girls game gets underway at 6:30 and the boys action will follow. Look for people wearing hats.

Also tonight it will be the High Point Central boys at Magna Vista, Virginia….

  1. The schedule that Page is playing for non conference will get them ready to plow through the Metro. Grimsley’s schedule, I think, isn’t helping them at all.

  2. I just hope the Page boys don’t do a repeat of last year. Started off well then went down hill. With the loss of Jordan I hope they can pull it together.
