PJ Hairston’s little brother William(William “Tre” Turner) said he was looking for Mike and Mike from ESPN last night at the Dudley-Smith basketball game and PJ found something he liked at the Price Place, as he hit for 29 points in the Panthers 79-62 win over the Eagles.
Little William thought that the AM950 radio broadcast of the game might have been an off-shoot of the well-known ESPN radio/ESPN2 TV show with Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, but it was really a basketball broadcast and it featured the (6-0) hot-shooting Panthers showing no signs of slowing down in the 17-point victory over the Golden Eagles.
PJ’s 29 came on 9-13 shooting from the field and he was 8-10 from the free throw line and he added 8 rebounds to a very solid night for Coach David Price’s team. Brennan Wyatt added 11 points for the Panthers and he dished out 8 assists. “Big” Brandon Pennix came up with 10 points and 7 rebounds for Dudley with Chris Whitsett, Reggie Dillard, and Deshawn Manuel pumping in six points each. Jonathan Koger led the way for Smith with 22 points going 9-11 from the field with many of shots coming on inside put-backs late in the conest. Koger worked hard all night long for the Eagles.
As a team, Dudley went 25-46 from the floor and the Panthers were 24-37 from the foul line in picking up their sixth win of the year. Dudley will host Southern Durham tonight at 7pm in the Price Place Gym on the Dudley campus.(Boys only contest.)
Elsewhere last night the Dudley girls stopped Smith 50-37 and in other girls action it was Northwest Guilford(8-2) over Southwest 53-40, Northeast pulled off a bit of a shocker beating Northern at NG, 47-46. SEG topped Trinity 51-36, Ragsdale ripped Eastern Randolph 64-31, High Point Central topped High Point Andrews 52-44, and Western whipped Morehead 60-47.
In the boys games it was Wilmington Hoggard slipping past Greensboro Day 55-53, Grimlsey spanked Bishop McGuinness 68-54, Page bonced back to beat North Davidson 68-44, Northern stuffed NEG 79-47, Ragsdale rolled over ER 57-33, Western knocked out Morehead 58-35 and HPA defeated HPC 51-37.
Does anyone know how Dudley looks in the state rankings? The big win over Word of God had to help. I haven’t seen anything in relation to the rest of the state though…
PJ Hairston’s little brother is William “Tre” Turner. He is quite the baller himself. He led the 8U Greensboro Galaxy AAU team to a #1 finish in the state and a #3 finish @ AAU Nationals.
