The Fresno Falcons – part of the Western Conference of the ECHL folded and were immediately terminated by the ECHL Board of Governors.

The Fresno sports ownership also operates a Triple-A Baseball Franchise and Soccer franchise. The Augusta Lynx dropped out earlier this year. The full Fresno story is in the Fresno Bee

The problem is that the ECHL got greedy. It expanded beyond the financial ability of teams to travel without sacrifice. They allowed BAD owners to operate without proper insurance and decent treatment of players, which resulted in the players joining a Players Union.

We saw the change in Greensboro. The old ECHL, we needed to make about $36,000 a game to cover expenses. The “new” ECHL the costs was closer to $50,000 (or more).
