JOSH HOWARD FOUNDATION NAMED PRESENTING SPONSOR OF NC SCHOLASTIC CLASSIC

Greensboro, N.C. – The Josh Howard Foundation has been named the presenting sponsor for the 7th Annual NC Scholastic Classic, a spectacular six-game event that brings the best in amateur hoops to Greensboro.

Founded by the current NBA and former Wake Forest star, The Josh Howard Foundation is dedicated to helping to improve the quality of life of economically challenged communities by utilizing programs and services that focus on academic improvement, community outreach, and athletic and fitness training.

“I am excited about being a part of this tournament which showcases the best of the best. This is not just about dribbling a ball but about keeping your grades up and being an all around good student,” said Howard. “Being a part of this Tournament is an honor. This is an opportunity for the rest of America to see what we know is true, North Carolina has the best pool of smart, talented athletes!”

In this sixth year with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Howard, a 6-7 guard/forward, owns career averages of 16.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg. A Winston-Salem native, Howard attended Wake Forest where his senior season included leading the Demon Deacons to their first ACC regular season title in 41 years and earning First Team All-America honors by the Associated Press. He was also a unanimous selection as ACC Player of the Year (first unanimous selection since David Thompson in 1975).

Featuring top high school and prep teams, the Josh Howard Foundation NC Scholastic Classic will feature elite prep teams and a host of Division I basketball prospects. Top players include Word of God’s John Wall, considered the nation’s top point guard prospect, Ravenscroft High School’s 6’ 9” forward Ryan Kelly (Duke recruit) and Mason Plumlee of Christ School, who is also being heavily recruited by Duke.

In its first year (2003), the North Carolina Scholastic Classic brought future NBA superstar LeBron James to the Triad, drawing a crowd of 16,220, a North Carolina state record for a high school basketball game. Other future NBA stars who have appeared in the Classic include Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder) and Josh Smith (Atlanta Hawks).

  1. Glenn..?? no disr4espect, but they are in a rebuilding year, that might not br the team you want to play Greensboro Day.

  2. We are bringing the Greenie Nation (200+ students and teachers — tickets already purchased) for the Oak Hill game. Apparently has also generated a lot of interest among CS alums young and old — eager to see if we can give Oak Hill a slightly better game than we did last year. 😉

  3. All games look great, but…not too sure of the GDS – Glenn matchup. No disrespect to Glenn, but they graduated 8 seniors last year (5 started) and are in a definite rebuilding mode (2-8 as of today). Didn’t anyone want to take on the Bengals???

  4. A perfect prelim to Christ School and Oak Hill would have been GDS and Dudley. Why can’t these schools come together and play at least once a year in the regular season. Would be great for basketball in our city. Set aside your differences guys and lets get that done.

  5. I would love to see a Greensboro Day-Dudley matchup and I would also like to see a game between Dudley and Ragsdale in the regular season…They might meet in the playoffs like they did in football, but I would like to see what they would do in the regular season in basketball as a precursor to the playoffs you might say…..
