No. 2 Duke Tops Davidson, 79-67
Jon Scheyer scored 22 points to help Duke to a 79-67 win over Davidson.

Stephen Curry started creating shots, and not coincidentally, they started to fall. Just that quickly, Davidson was on its way back from a big deficit — and it was starting to feel like last March again.

But the Wildcats had too far to come, especially against No. 2 Duke.

Scheyer and Kyle Singler both scored 22 points, and Duke held off a late Curry-led charge to beat Davidson 79-67 on Wednesday night.

Gerald Henderson added 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting for the Blue Devils (13-1). They never trailed, outscored the Wildcats 20-7 to start the second half and won their 67th straight nonconference home game by withstanding a furious comeback attempt that for a while seemed destined to add to Curry’s legend.

Tar Heels Strong Against College of Charleston, Win 108-70

Tyler Hansbrough had 24 points and third-ranked North Carolina bounced back from its first loss by beating College of Charleston 108-70 on Wednesday night.

Deon Thompson added 15 points for the Tar Heels (14-1) in their first game since Sunday’s stunning 85-78 home loss to Boston College. North Carolina used a 19-2 run spanning halftime to turn the game into a rout, shot 59 percent for the game and cracked the 100-point mark for the fifth time this year.

North Carolina had held the No. 1 ranking from the preseason until Sunday’s loss to the Eagles in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener, a game in which the Tar Heels trailed by 15 points against a team picked to finish 11th in the league race. Before Sunday, the Tar Heels — who returned their top six scorers from a Final Four team that won a school-record 36 games — had won every game by double figures and were even hearing questions about whether they could go unbeaten even as they sounded eager to see how they’d handle a tougher game.

Boston College Falls to Harvard

Jeremy Lin scored 27 points to lead Harvard to an 82-70 upset over No. 17 Boston College on Wednesday night, coming after the Eagles upset previously top-ranked North Carolina in their last game.

The Eagles (13-3), who had their 10-game winning streak snapped, defeated the unbeaten Tar Heels 85-78 in Chapel Hill on Sunday for one of the school’s biggest regular season wins to move into the Top 25.

Corey Raji paced BC with 16 points, Tyrese Rice had 14, Joe Trapani had 12. Rice was held to three points until the final four minutes.

Oliver McNally had 19 points and Andrew Pusar 13 for the Crimson (8-6), who had lost 15 of their last 16 games against the Eagles. Lin added eight assists before fouling out with about a minutes left.

Maryland Upended by Morgan State in Final Non-Conference Game

Reggie Holmes scored 25 points, including 18 in the second half, and Morgan State rallied from a 14-point deficit in the final 12 minutes to upend Maryland 66-65 Wednesday night, ending the Terrapins’ seven-game winning streak.

The Bears (6-8), a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team based in Baltimore, were 0-5 against the Terrapins (11-3) in a series that began in 1988.

A 3-pointer by Jermaine Bolden completed a 21-5 run that put the Bears up 61-59 with 2:15 left. After Greivis Vasquez made two free throws for Maryland, Holmes scored on a tip-in to put Morgan State back in front.

Dave Neal tied it at 63 with two foul shots, and after Holmes buried another 3, Landon Milbourne made a basket for Maryland and was fouled with 29.8 seconds left. He missed the free throw, and the Terrapins subsequently misfired on several opportunities in their bid to regain the lead.
