JOSH VOGELBACH ’08 SIGNS WITH PROFESSIONAL INDOOR FOOTBALL TEAM

We usually save Guilford College news for the side columns, but this is pretty BIG news for Josh Vogelbach. We wish him well and may he find a Kurt Warner-type path somewhere out there in Illinois.

Greensboro, N.C. — Former Guilford College standout Josh Vogelbach ’08 recently signed a professional football contract with the Bloomington (Ill.) Extreme of the Indoor Football League. Vogelbach, the all-time passing yardage and completions leader in NCAA Division III history, will report to the team’s preseason camp in February.

Vogelbach concluded his career last fall as the most prolific passer in NCAA Division III history and set 19 NCAA records. The North Fort Myers, Fla., native completed 1,189 passes in 1,982 attempts for 13,591 yards, all Division III records. A four-year starter, he threw 124 touchdowns and compiled 13,890 total offensive yards in his career, both Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standards. Vogelbach was a three-time All-ODAC performer and won the league’s Rookie of the Year Award in 2005. He graduated in December with a degree in exercise and sport science.

The Indoor Football League was created in October 2008 by the merger of the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football (UIF). It is comprised of 17 teams located mostly in the Midwest. Bloomington, which reached the 2008 UIF championship game, is scheduled to open the preseason March 7 against the Saginaw (Mich.) Sting.
