Beck 2008/2009 Volleyball Player of the Year

 *WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – *Wake Forest signee Andrea Beck has been named  the 2008-09 Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year for the state of North Carolina.
 
Gatorade has been honoring outstanding high school student-athletes 
since 1985 and has become one of the most prestigious high school awards.
 
State winners were selected on the basis of outstanding athletic 
excellence accompanied by high standards of academic achievement and 
exemplary personal character demonstrated on and off the field.
 

Beck is a local product from nearby Mount Tabor High School in 
Winston-Salem. She is a 6’1″ middle blocker who recorded a total of 244 
kills and had a stunning .544 hitting percentage.
 
She was a two-time member of the Central Piedmont All-Conference Team 
and was named the Conference Player of the Year as a senior. She also 
earned All-Region honors in 2006 and was a four-year varsity letter 
winner for the Spartans.
 

Beck also played the last three seasons for the Player’s Edge Junior 
Olympic Volleyball Club and was a member of the USA Volleyball Junior 
National A2 Team. This past summer, Beck was named one of 
Prepvolleyball.com’s “Senior Aces.”
 
“We are extremely excited for Andrea,” said Wake Forest head coach 
Heather Kahl Holmes. “This award is a testament to her hard work not 
only on the court but in the classroom as well. She has a real passion 
for the game and we are really looking forward to her joining our 
program next fall.”
 
The selection process was administered by ESPN RISE Magazine, the 
nation’s leading sports and lifestyle magazine for teens.
