*WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – *Wake Forest signee Andrea Beck has been named the 2008-09 Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year for the state of North Carolina.

Gatorade has been honoring outstanding high school student-athletesÂ
since 1985 and has become one of the most prestigious high school awards.
Â
State winners were selected on the basis of outstanding athleticÂ
excellence accompanied by high standards of academic achievement andÂ
exemplary personal character demonstrated on and off the field.
Â
Beck is a local product from nearby Mount Tabor High School inÂ
Winston-Salem. She is a 6’1″ middle blocker who recorded a total of 244Â
kills and had a stunning .544 hitting percentage.
Â
She was a two-time member of the Central Piedmont All-Conference TeamÂ
and was named the Conference Player of the Year as a senior. She alsoÂ
earned All-Region honors in 2006 and was a four-year varsity letterÂ
winner for the Spartans.

Beck also played the last three seasons for the Player’s Edge JuniorÂ
Olympic Volleyball Club and was a member of the USA Volleyball JuniorÂ
National A2 Team. This past summer, Beck was named one ofÂ
Prepvolleyball.com’s “Senior Aces.”

only on the court but in the classroom as well. She has a real passionÂ

nation’s leading sports and lifestyle magazine for teens.
