ACC women’s basketball from last night: Wake tops G Tech, first time since 2004

Wake Forest Defeats Georgia Tech 68-60

The Wake Forest women’s basketball team defeated Georgia Tech 68-60 on Tuesday evening in Winston-Salem, marking the first WFU win over the Ramblin’ Wreck since February 2004. The Deacons improved to 15-5 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the win. The Yellow Jackets are now 16-6 and 4-4 in conference play.

Alex Tchangoue had the game-high scoring mark with 17 points and Georgia Tech’s Alex Montgomery led the teams on the boards with nine rebounds. WFU point guard Brooke Thomas tied her career-high of 12 points and Courteney Morris had her best scoring effort in league play so far this season with 12 points.

Wake Forest’s on-point free throw shooting down the final stretch helped clinch the win. The Deacons shot a season-high 38 free throws, hitting 81 percent, their best mark since the December 3 matchup with South Carolina. Brooke Thomas was 10-for-12 from the line and Alex Tchangoue was 9-for-10.

Seizing opportunities on Georgia Tech turnovers also played a key factor in Wake’s win. The Yellow Jackets turned the ball over 18 times and the Demon Deacons scored 19 points off the GT turnovers.
