Taking a ride with Ronnie Yow

I spent about three hours riding and talking yesterday with Ronnie Yow, the brother of Kay Yow, who passed away about two weeks ago.

We talked about his sister and the influence she had on the people she came in contact with. We also got the chance to discuss the other Yow girls Debbie and Susan. Debbie, the athletic director at Maryland and Susan, the head women’s basketball coach at Belmont Abbey.

I also got the scoop on the Clemson Tiger football team and their beloved football coach Frank Howard and his affection for orange football shoes when the Tigers played the N.C. white-shoes bunch back in the late 60’s…..

I will have more stories from that three-houir cruise coming up in this blog over the next several days and believe me, the Yow family is a special bred with the patriarch Hilton Yow passing on his very own Gibsonville-style of family endearment

  1. Greetings:

I knew Ronnie Yow while attending UNC-G and recently heard about his sister, Kay. I haven’t had any contact with Ronnie in eons, but wanted to express my deepest sympathy at the loss of his sister. I’ve periodically tracked the Yow sisters’ careers in women’s basketball. I’m sure he’s very proud of all of them. If Ronnie would like to contact me, my email address is dsgbead@comcast.net and I’m also on facebook.

Thanks in advance//deborah gibson (friends with Ann Lewis, Cathy Findlay McCurry, Harlan “Sach” Marley, Beth Holcombe Miller, Mike Calder , Joy Bradley Edwards, Heather Chipley et al)

  2. I spoke with Ronnie briefly after the grave side service in Gibsonville. He asked me for my number and I told him to call the Durham Planning office and we could connect that way. If you can get in touch with him. Please give him this message. Call Clay @ 919-560-4137 ext 240.
