GUILFORD MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM RANKED IN NATIONAL POLL

Greensboro, N.C. — The Guilford College men’s basketball team is ranked 24th in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The rating marks the first time the Quakers have made an appearance on the list since their 12th-place finish in the final 2007-08 poll.

Coach Tom Palombo’s club is 17-4 following Saturday’s 75-61 win versus Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Washington and Lee University. The win extended Guilford’s home winning streak to nine and their overall winning streak to four. The Quakers (10-2 ODAC) have won 13 of their last 15 games and stand second in the conference, trailing first-place Randolph-Macon College by one win. Guilford was ranked third in the Feb. 4 NCAA Division III South Region poll.

Junior Clay Henson (Glen Alpine, N.C./Freedom) leads the ODAC in scoring, averaging 19.6 points per game, and currently sits in second in three-point shooting, hitting 2.81 per game. A two-time ODAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honoree this season, he also leads the Quakers in total steals (26) and needs 64 points for 1,000 points in his career. Classmate Rhett Bonner (Yadkinville, N.C./North Forsyth (Presbyterian)) stands second on the team and seventh among league scoring leaders with 15.5 points per contest. His 3.29 assists per game lead the Quakers and rank seventh in the ODAC. Tyler Sanborn (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) holds the league’s top spot and stands fifth among NCAA Division III leaders in rebounding through games of Feb. 8, pulling down 12.0 boards per game.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday (2/11) at Eastern Mennonite University. Guilford returns to Ragan-Brown Field House for Senior Day and the final home game of the season Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m.
