HS hoops tonight and GDS tops Calvary Baptist last evening

Greensboro Day School(25-2) over Calvary Baptist last night 86-41 and tonight we have a load of games to look forward to with the last week of the regular season staring us right in the face. GDS girls fall to Calvary 45-25 and Javan Mitchell led the GDS boys with 17, while Brandon Dorsett added 11.

Also tonight we have:
Southern vs. Eastern at UNCG with Coach Whitaker his Storm(4-4) looking to de-rail Coach Gunn and her Wildcats(8-1). Boys game, EG(6-3) conference chasing Reidsville(9-0)…Southern has won back-to-back games and could still shake up the final conference standings.

High Point Andrews at Southwest Guilford…Girls game could be a classic as Tonisha Baker had 25 in her last outing for HPA and the Zena Lovette kid for SWG can light it up.(Lovette had 20 last Friday versus WS Parkland.)

Northwest at Grimsley…NWG closes with Grimsley and Page and it should be exciting especially on the boys side. NWG beat Grimsley in the Pizza Hut Invitational and then later Grimsley beat NWG on the Vikings’ court. Grimsley boys (5-3)/NWG(3-5)….

High Point Central at Page…The Pirates finish the regular season with three straight home games, Grimsley, HPC and then NWG Friday night. Pirate boys have a chance to sweep the Metro. Page girls and HPC battling for #2 spot in tourney.

Western Alamance at Dudley…The Panthers will have to wait until next week’s Triad 3-A tournament to get some real competition. Panthers, no problem tonight.

Northern at Morehead….Same story for the Nighthawks, although the Lady Nighthawks must stay on course since they have had some ups and downs, but the boys from NG will chart a course that will take them to NEG next week to meet Dudley in the finals of the conference tournament.

East Forsyth at Smith…Eagles go up against Eagles and the Smith girls should be Golden after the EF encounter, but the boys game is probably a toss-up with Danny O’Brien and his bunch from Kernersville coming over to Holden Road.

Western Guilford at Bartlett Yancey…..The Hornets need to win both of these for the tournament seedings. Boys game could be a tougher task, but WG should win two tonight.

Eastern Randolph at Southeast Guilford….The Falcons are still trying to keep pace with Ragsdale, but it’s getting late and time has just about run out.

Northeast Guilford at Rockingham County…Rams have to have both of these games to get position for next week, but the boys of NEG have a much better chance of winning tonight than the Ram girls do. RC Cougar girls get tough this time of year.

Plus we have on the slate this evening:
North Stokes at Bishop McGuinness
Winston-Salem Prep (boys) at High Point Wesleyan
High Point Christian at Caldwell Academy
Oak Ridge at Carolina Friends
American Hebrew at Elon School

  1. Page boys dropped one against the Bison of High Point Central, 63-60. A lead of 10 pts. was diminished to 3 by the end of the third quarter and Central finished the job in the fourth. I give Central all of the credit for their win tonight. However, this loss did absolutely nothing to the Pirates but make them imperfect in Metro 4-A play. The Pirates are already guaranteed a #1 seed in both the Conference Tournament and the playoffs. Next game for Page is against the Vikings of Northwest Guilford. If Page can successfully rebound from this loss, the Pirates will have a lot of momentum going into the conference tourney and postseason.

  2. Big win for the Bison tonight. Derek Grant (19 pts) & Xavier Nieves (16 pts) led the way offensively. Akeem Langham and Ricky Dowdy made big contributions on both sides down the stretch. If the Bison can feed off of this victory, they could be dangerous in the conference tournament. Congrats to Julius Brooks on his Mcdonalds All American nomination.
