HS hoops from Tuesday: Page falls to HPC

The Page Pirates lost for the first time(2008/2009) in the Metro 4-A last night falling to High Point Central, 63-60. Xavier Nieves led the Bison late assault on the Pirates and finished with 16 points. Who is this Nieves fellow? Never heard of him, but I have heard of Derek Grant who had 18 for HPC, while Mitchell Oates pumped in 28 for Page.

In other hoops activity, it was Grimsley fighting back to beat Northwest Guilford, 79-68. Keith Manley was the top Whirlie with 27 points. Dudley whipped Western Alamance 86-51 with PJ Hairston hitting for 28, and Northern ripped Morehead 86-58 with Johnathan Frye knocking down 23 points for the Nighthawks.

Western Guilford slipped past Bartlett Yancey 55-54 and the crowd was yelling Reggie, Reggie, Reggie last night as Reggie Perkins poured in 12 to lead the Hornets. Smith rolled over East Forsyth 71-49, backed by Christian Rhodie’s 16 buckets. James Pegues was a force for the SEG Falcons as they beat Eastern Randolph 75-61.

Antwan Wilkinson’s 16 point effort helped Northeast Guilford double-up Rockingham County, 80-40. Quayshad Williams and his 17 helped Eastern get past Southern at UNCG, 60-58. I was at this game and it was a fight to the finish. Very exciting and a true example of a see-saw battle.

High Point Andrews eased by Southwest Guilford 70-68 with Appalachian-bound Tony Washington collecting 13 points for the Red Raiders. Charlotte Christian topped High Point Wesleyan 59-52 and High Point Christian stopped Caldwell Academy, 58-52.

Bishop rallied behind 4 made three pointers in the first quarter to go up 19-11. The second quarter was more of the same as the Villains took a 37-22 lead into the half behind freshman Matthew Paspy’s 14 first half points. North Stokes would rally back in the third quarter and early in the fourth the Vikings cut the Villains lead to 8 points but would never get any closer.
