Second Half Run Pushes Terps Past No. 17 Virginia

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Marissa Coleman scored a season-high 28 points, Kristi Toliver added 25, and No. 11 Maryland pulled away to its 31st consecutive home victory, 94-78 over 17th-ranked Virginia on Thursday night.

Coleman’s 3-pointer with 14:09 remaining erased a 51-50 deficit and started a 9-0 spree that put the Terrapins ahead for good. Coleman moved past Vicky Bullett into second place on Maryland’s career scoring list with 1,931 points, trailing only Crystal Langhorne (2,247).

The victory pushed Maryland into sole possession of second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference, a half-game behind Florida State. The Terrapins (20-4, 8-2) have won four straight and seven of eight, the lone loss in that span at Virginia on Jan. 30.

Toliver became the fourth player in ACC history to reach 700 assists. The Terrapins’ career assists leader is at 704 after getting five against the Cavaliers (19-6, 5-4).

Pack overcomes 11-point halftime deficit in win over Wake

RALEIGH, N.C. – Shayla Fields scored 22 points and Bonae Holston added 20 in leading NC State back from a double-digit halftime deficit for a 59-51 victory over Wake Forest Thursday night at Reynolds Coliseum.

NC State (10-14, 2-7 ACC) exploded out of the lockerroom in the second half with a 13-2 run to erase an 11-point halftime deficit. A Fields three-pointer 3:41 into the half knotted things at 34-all for the first tie of the contest.

A one-possession game for the next 10 minutes, Holston (9-14 FG) layed in a handoff from Fields to make it 42-all with six minutes to go. The stingy Wolfpack defense then went to work, holding Wake scoreless the next 7:47.

Bench Carries Miami to 59-56 Victory

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team (13-11, 2-7) overcame an early 12 point deficit and defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies (11-14, 1-9), 59-56. In the victory, 10 different Hurricanes scored at the Cassell Coliseum.

Only one player scored in double-figures for the Hurricanes, freshman Shenise Johnson with 11. But nine other Miami players scored on the night to give the ‘Canes their second ACC victory of the season.

Sophomore Briyana Blair continues to make her minutes count, on this night, she scored eight crucial points and her two free throws with 5:27 to go in the game, gave Miami the lead for good.

Latoya Drake, Charmaine Clark, LaToya Cunningham and Damisha Moore each scored seven points on the night. Moore free throw gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the evening with 7:27 left in the contest.
