HS hoops tonight and the AM950 call

Here’s the lineup for tonight and some of the area schools have completed the regular season, but here’s who’s left with some HUGE games on the schedule for this evening.

The AM950 call will have Western Guilford at Dudley and that should get going with an airtime of around 7:15 for the boys and we will re-cap the girls on what should be Senior Night at Dudley.

We hope to have updates on Northwest Guilford at Page and Greensboro Day School at Christ School and possibly High Point Central at East Forsyth.

The lineup features:

Elon School at High Point Christian

Westchester at Caldwell Academy

  1. I saw christ school play oak hill. Christ school is very tall and physical. Gds can win but they will need to play great defense and hit their shots from outside on o.

  2. I’m telling you Tom that makes two weeks in a row that the N&R master schedule from back in Novemeber has had you guys playing on the road instead of at home.

If memory serves me correctly you guys at NG played Western at WA on Saturday a few weeks ago in a makeup from a weekday game that was missed due to inclement weather….

    Thanks Tom and good luck.

  3. Ng took 2 home tonight. both teams winning by over 25points. Boys game was close in first half. John McBeth’s basket @ the buzzer gave NG a 8 point lead @ half. NG went on a run after a scoreless 3 minutes that built that 8 point lead to 20. The girls looked a little sloppy here and there but never trailed. After the half, they built their 14 point lead to 24 while keeping WA scoreless. NG had a 22 point lead @ the end of 3 qtrs. I believe final score was 58-31. Great night to be a Nighthawk!

  4. “The Christ School is gonna mop the floor with Greensboro Day.”

GDS got an ass whoopin last nite. Still the best team in this city.

  5. Just like I predicted Greensboro Day got a thrashing from The Christ School………maybe this is why GDS no longer plays in some of the bigger tournaments around the country…………..Freddy Johnson needs to put his pride and EGO aside and start competing more on the national level even if that means his Bengals will get an ass whoopin.

  6. Was at the Christ School – GDS game (I work at Christ School and am a GDS alum, so it’s never easy watching them play each other). The game was pretty even in the first half (21-18, CS). The turning point, as it has been in several games this year, is that fatigue tends to set in with opponents when CS is able to get the game into a quick running contest. We were never able to do that with Oak Hill because they were actually faster AND as functionally big as we are. GDS is every bit as fast as CS — in fact they do an outstanding job of getting back on defense before the ball penetrates — but the size that CS has inside began to have an impact. GDS went cold from the field for a while in the 3rd quarter (something we have experienced as well in a few games), and it’s those types of stretches that often create a wide margin between two good teams. I spoke with the CS coach (David Gaines) after the game, and he thinks this is the best defensive team at GDS he has seen in the last several years. The two teams have met in the state championship the last two years — in 2007 GDS was favored and CS pulled off the upset, and in 2008 CS was favored and held its spot. Will be an excellent state tournament with these two, Ravenscroft, Forsyth Country Day, and Charlotte Christian accounting for the top 5 3A private school teams in the state.

Westchester will be a strong favorite in the 2A private school tournament, and the 1A tournament will be — as the young ones used to say, “off the hook” as Word of God, United Faith Christian (Charlotte area), Flora McDonald (Fayetteville area), and Greenfield School (Wilson area) will probably constitute a major run-and-gun dunk-fest in the final four.
