Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest pick up wins.
No. 7 Demon Deacons beat No. 25 Florida State 86-63
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -Al-Farouq Aminu scored 17 points to help No. 7 Wake Forest beat No. 25 Florida State 86-63 on Saturday.
Jeff Teague added 15 points for the Demon Deacons (19-4, 6-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), who led the entire way in bouncing back from a frustrating stretch that followed their brief appearance at No. 1. Wake Forest used a 13-0 run in the second half to take control and end the Seminoles’ three-game winning streak.
Wake Forest had lost four of six, including Wednesday’s loss at unranked North Carolina State in which it trailed by 20 points in the second half. But the Demon Deacons controlled this one from the start, scoring the first six points and leading by as many as 30.
Wolfpack Defeats Georgia Tech, 86-65
ATLANTA, Ga. (AP) -Tracy Smith scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and five other North Carolina State players scored in double figures to help the Wolfpack defeated Georgia Tech 86-65 on Saturday, sending the reeling Yellow Jackets to their fourth straight loss.
Javier Gonzalez and Courtney Fells each added 14 points, C.J. Williams and Dennis Horner each had 11 points and Brandon Costner had 10 points for North Carolina State (14-9, 4-6 Atlantic Coast Conference). The Wolfpack won their first ACC game on the road after four losses.
Georgia Tech (10-14, 1-10 ACC), losing its ninth in 10 games, was led by Iman Shumpert’s 14 points. Lewis Clinch added 12 and Alade Aminu had 11.
Maryland Leads from Wire to Wire in an 83-73 Win Over Virginia Tech
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) – Landon Milbourne scored 23 points, Greivis Vasquez had 17 and Maryland never trailed in an 83-73 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday.
It was the third win in four games for the Terrapins, who finally got back to .500 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Maryland (16-8, 5-5) is 4-1 at home and 1-4 on the road in the ACC.
The Terrapins went 24-for-26 at the foul line, sinking 22 of 23 in the second half.
Maryland desperately needed the victory, not only to get back to the break-even mark in league play but because the next three teams on the schedule are Clemson, North Carolina and Duke.
A.D. Vassallo led Virginia Tech (16-8, 6-4) with 20 points. Malcolm Delaney had only five points with 5 minutes left but finished with 16 to extend his ACC-best run of consecutive games in double figures to 29.
