Long-time Channel 2 sports director Charlie Harville was a sports man, a NASCAR man and a Wrestling Man when he did his Saturday night Mid-Atlantic Wrestling shows on WGHP TV 8. Charlie was THE play-by-play man.

Now Grimsley HS grad and former Lenoir Rhyne College Bear(roommate of Texas Longhorn hoops coach Rick Barnes while in Hickory) MIKE HOGEWOOD is heading to the ring.

For the former News 2 sports director, ACC sports announcer, and Fox Sports personality, it will be the Ring of Honor to be exact. In truth, this might now become the Ring of Hogewood.

Here’s our release that we received from Bruce Mitchell of the Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter and web site:

The new ROH play-by-play man for their upcoming HDnet.TV show is… Mike Hogewood.

ROH wrestling was featured extensively in the movie, “The Wrestler”, with Mickey Rourke. Several Ring of Honor wrestlers appeared in the movie, they used their ring and their microphone stand with ROH all over it was seen quite often.

How will Mike Hogewood do? If his heart is in this he has a good shot, if not and this is just for the paycheck, he might end up going the same route as former WWE personality Mike Adamle.

Thanks to Bruce Mitchell for the info and hopefully he can keep us updated on how all of this turns out…….
