Southwest pitcher Bo Rein pitched four shutout innings to get the win. Southwest again displayed flawless defense and a balanced hitting attack. Alex Smith pitched a perfect fith inning for the Cowboys. Will Kellam had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s, and Davis Inman continued his hot hitting with 3 more hits and an RBI. Ethan Ogburn had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s and Cal Sutphin picked up 2 more hits and 3 RBI’s. Bo Rein, Seth Blair, and Alex Smith also picked up hits for the Cowboys
Saturday at 2:00 at Southwest Guilford – the Cowboys will take on undefeated and defending State Champs Orange High School. Brock Hudgens will be on the mound for the Cowboys and word is that Liberty University will be there to see Brock and others.

*****Words really can’t describe this game.***** Big-time rivalry developing between these two schools in all sports. We have seen it already in basketball, now in baseball and even though Dudley is going 4-A we’ll see it in football too next year, if they meet.
Excellent crowd on hand and most of the fans said they can’t wait for the re-match at Dudley.
Tevin Neal took the loss for Dudley, but he still went the distance for the Panthers and Ray Crawford hit a solo home run for Dudley. Coach Deon Clark said he felt like the game should have been tied at 4-4 late in the contest and that might have been the case if not for the Dudley fielding errors and hitting/base running mistakes.
There was a delay in the game with a discussion about visits to the mound per inning allowed by the Northern coaches, but take nothing away from Northern, the Nighthawks have arrived and they now stand at (2-1) in the Triad 3-A Conference and they are somewhere in neighborhood of 6-1 or 5-2 overall.
The Northern kids are focused and they have their sights set on the Triad 3-A Conference Championship. Coach Jim Clontz, the Athletic Director at Western Guilford, told me that the conference title always goes through Western Guilford and the Nighthawks beat Western at WG, the other evening(Wednesday night).
Jeremy Campbell came on to close out the game tonight on the mound for Northern just as he did the other night at Western Guilford. George Carter hit the ball hard again and early in the game the Nighthawks were finding the holes in the Dudley Panthers defense. Strubinger has hit the baseball very hard for Northern in the past two games I have seen and the catcher Scott Wells has also been a big factor in the Nighthawk wins. We are going with Scott Wells hoping we are not leaving Johnathan out. One of the Wells kids has been hurt. Didn’t catch the name of the Nighthawk starting pitcher and still not sure if he stayed in or came out after the delay.
Johnny and Justin Smith are doing a good job of building the Northern program and Ray Crawford and Deon Clark are two of the most competitive coaches that we have in Guilford County and all of these men are looking out for the kids. No coach Larry Farrer for Dudley tonight. He was out after minor surgery.
Words can’t really describe this one, can’t wait for the next meeting between Northern and Dudley.

1st congrats to the NG Players on a well played game.They capitalized on errors like you are supposed to do.I’m taking nothing away from their play.My concern comes from (3) issues about officiating.
1. How do call a H.S. varsity game and not know the rules on pitcher visitations, as was clearly demonstated by Mr.king tonight.He had to call his booking agent for a rules clarification,as to which at the end of the game he still had not received.
2.How do you warn teams about throwing at batters. 3 batters after someone is hit and not tell both coaches.After you have clearly lost control of the game early on.
3.How are you so out of position you call a runner out who has already slid half of their body across the plate before being tagged on his …glutes …to put it nicely(video to be posted).

Poor officiating. With a small riot at the end. #18 should have been out of the game twice for poor sportsmanship.

#18 was hit by a pitch twice during the game, not much of a coincidence since the pitcher told him he was going to hit him the second time. By the way this kid was the same Northern Guilford wrestler who bump up from 215″ to heavy weight to pin Dudley’s heavy weight to give Northern Guiford a victory by one in the last match of the night. Dudley is having a difficult time dealing with lossing. Anyone can be a good winner, but you really get a clear view of a group when you witness them in defeat. By the way Dudley’s wrestling team wrestling was first class.
#18 gave the first punch by pushing Dudley’s 2nd baseman. But it sound like a steroid problem to me. And I commend Dudley’s #18 for not reacting.
Thanks for not mentioning the kids names in a negative light. We need to refrain from that since these are kids and they all need your support.
If we can stay away from slinging mud on the kids that’s a good thing, but otherwise we will have to delete negative comments.
Let’s have fun with and stay competitive, but try and leave the kids out of it unless we can find a way to promote them to a higher level.

I feel that also Tevin Neal pitched a great, great, game. He pitched well enough to win. We just could not make the plays behind him. I think Tevin would be my player of the game for hangin in there to go the distance after all that had occured. Good Job Mr. Neal
Again half the story…18 hit & pushed the 2nd baseman twice,ran into the 3rd baseman and made a derogatory comment on a blown call @ the plate.Your own coach Justin knew he was going to get hit for what he did..he stated “that’s baseball”..did anyone complain when the DHS pither was hit in the helmet. If you gonna tell it tell it all.How about the NG AD trying to pass off runoff water as drinking water ..saying he drinks it all the time while the dip juice was flowing.The baseball players have no need to retaliate for the wrestling team..but if so that would mean our teams take up for each other and have loyalty to their schoolmates.BUT Wells like I stated was hit for his bad sportsmanship on the field
Ask your coach how exceptable his actions were .I guess it was bad sportmanship to hit and throw at WG Smith just because he hit HR .As to the tell the accept losing heed what you say.The actions of NG PARENTS @ both games played at NG has been less than admirable in defeat and in victory.Ask anyone who has played AT DHS in the last 2 years how they were received and treated.Lets not start the class issue.Class is not having fans making verbal barbs at coaches during the game,trying to intimidate players with your size.

I also liked what I saw from Tevin Neal. He slid in hard on the close play at the plate and came up with mud and dirt on the front of his shirt and he re-took the mound and stayed focused. As Coach Fowler was saying over by the fence, all of the kids had to stay focused and for the most part, all of them did.
April 21 can’t get here soon enough, I am really looking forward to that game and I am sure that there will be a great turnout from both sides.

First off the catcher is Jonathan Wells, Scott Wells is out with a broke hand, and now the real story, i was taking my lead off 2nd and the SS came by and was steping on my feet so natural reaction cause me to go forward so i woundnt fall and the SS was there and i turned to him said i didnt mean anything, i was tripped and then i got to 3rd base and #12 is tellin me to watch my back for what i did which none of this comes out because dudley is perfect, so my next at bat i lead off and i see the 3rd basemen look at me then talk to the pitcher and wouldnt u kno it the first pitch hits me, im sorry u get mad when u kno that the other team is trying to hit you but dont see how its poor sportsman ship yea i did throw the bat, not toward but at the ground but i didnt say a word as i was going toward 1st and whats this about a derogetory comment at the plate if its the one about dudley sliding into home what did I say? i knew he was safe so after he was called out i went ot the dugout yall video taped the whole thing go back and look at it and the small riot in the parkin lot wouldnt u kno it #12 came lookin for a fight and so i guess its not a steriod problem with me cause i got in my truck and left because hes not worth my baseball career so thanks for trying to give my name a bad reputation but if u were there you would kno the whole story not what all the Dudley fans say. Only the players in the base path were bumped and that is baseball nothing out of the way. I always thought the coaches were suppose to know the rules. (trips to the mound etc.) But I understand the Head baseball coach for Dudley wasn’t at the game. He probably knows the rules and had he been at the game we could have done without the twenty minute delay in the 2nd Inning. I’m not sure I understand the young man hitting the home run and pointing at the scoreboard when Dudley was down 8-3? What did that mean?

At EVERY GAME they have a GREAT group of young men on their baseball team and the BEST BASEBALL FANS of ANY school around….ENOUGH SAID
Bottom line is….the Dudley players and fans just want the game to be FAIR…they want to be treated FAIR….NO favors on either side….go by the rules in the book and let the young men play baseball
I was at the game with Dudley vs Northern and I wont make any negative comments about NG #18 because he KNOWS what he said and he KNOWS what he did that night at that game. He can print anything he wants in this blog.
But I will make a general comment…..when you have bad sportsmanship…it WILL come back on you in some way…and it doesn’t mean that DUDLEY is going to be the one to do it…it just means…when you don’t do right by people…one day you will pay for it….your negative actions and attitude will come back to bite you.
That goes for ANYBODY…..even PARENTS.

Please don’t forget that Northern Guilford is a NEW SCHOOL
which is a combination of “originally” 2 other schools…ie Northwest High and Northeast High…..and NOW we add into the mix students transferring in from other schools….which I personally don’t have a problem with because I feel students should be able to go to whatever school they choose or feel they can get the best education or best opportunities to succeed beyond high school.
HOWEVER…all the “we beat Dudley at THIS and we beat Dudley at THAT is not even necessary (very childish behavior)…..because when referring to basketball and football….it took the creation of a NEW SCHOOL to even COMPETE with The Great James B Dudley High School.
so take it for what it is….just as Dudley has always been fortunate to get super athletes…the NEW SCHOOL IN TOWN, Northern Guilford High is now able to do the same.

I am a parent of one of the dudley players and we had this problem out of Northern last year. The problem started when #18 of Northern elbowed the SS and the 3B; that shows unsportsmanlike conduct. The coach from Northern need to teach his players how to conduct themselves on and off the field(As well as some of their parents.) There is no need for name calling. Cheating to win is really not a win! We all need to remember that children follow by example. Let leave this game behind us and look forward to playing a good, clean game of baseball on the 21 of April.

i HAVE NEVER HEARD SO MANY BABIES, IT WAS A COMPETITIVE HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL GAME THAT WAS PLAYED AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. IF A DUDLEY PLAYERS MAKES CONTACT THEN IT IS NORTHERN FAULT. BOTTOM LINE IS BOTH TEAMS COMPETED AT A HIGH LEVEL AND IT IS HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL BUT I DO WANT ALL YOU TO KNOW THERE WERE SEVERAL COLLEGE COACHES THERE AND THEY WERE AMAZED AT SOME OF THE PEOPLE ACTIONS. NG should have been worrying about DJ Russ from Weschester and maybe they would not have gotten beat Saturday, that game just goes to show that NG is a pretender and not a contender when in comes to baseball in Guilford County.
Note to Guilford County – since High school sports are becoming such a joke and athletic directors let parents run the show, why dont you eliminate all high school sports and balance your budget with these cuts. Then programs like the Gators and AAu, USSSA or whatever club teams can take over with qualified coaches such as Coach K at Northern- he can recruit and help all the kids he wants and he and others will not have to put up with all this crap. They would have quality coaches at the highest levels of club ball teams, not science teaches, or gym teachers that cant hit a fungo or throw bp or make a layup. Then all the parents of the kids that cant play – can start there own teams and let their kid play cf and ss and point guard in hoops and lose by 400 to the kids that can play – everyone has fun!! yeah

The Dudley players, parents and fans are good sports and good people and have no hard feelings toward Northern Guilford.
The negative things that have happened and that have been said are now in the past.
All ‘GOOD’ teams are competitive and want to win….but reality is that one team has to win and one team has to lose. As we ALL know from previous experience a team can win one game and the next time they play the same team they may lose…or if they lose the first time…the next time they may win. That happens in EVERY SPORT. Let’s let all the negativity go and try to create a better example for our young athletes. What are we gaining from the negative comments anyway? NOTHING…this stuff is only creating a hostile environment for the next time these teams, players or parents meet because of words that shouldn’t have been said.

NORTHERN IS THE 3RD BEST TEAM IN GUILFORD COUNTY, NORTHWEST AND RAGSDALE ARE BETTER THAN THEY ARE, BUT GUILFORD COUNTY CAN EXPECT NORTHERN TO BE THE BEST IN THE NEXT 2 YEARS. THEY ARE LOADED WITH SOPHMORES AND FRESHMAN. I BELIEVE DUDLEY PLAYERS AND PARENTS ARE GOOD PEOPLE BUT I HOPE THINGS CLEAN UP BETWEEN THOSE TEAMS. I KNOW THE SMITHS AND I THINK JOHNNY AND JUSTIN WILL HANDLE THERE TEAM AND I THINK LARRY WILL HANDLE HIS TEAM. I HOPE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE IT MAKES BOTH TEAMS AND THE CONFERENCE LOOK BAD
