Watch WFMY, WXII, WGHP and News14 Sports and for the most part you are seeing as much as 90% of the same content – some days it seems like only the talking head was changed.
As TV Groups look to cut expenses, they are looking at Sports as an easy target for cuts. In larger markets, stations are serious looking at services to provide sports news – effectively farming out the sports to a third party.
When the Congress began debating High Definition over 20 years ago; network representatives reported the local stations will have to re-invent themselves or face going out of business. Now is the time – who is the first.
Dave Goren is gone (not replaced) so WXII is close. HOWEVER, I pick WFMY – Greg Kerr’s contract is up soon.
NEWS 14 may be our best option.
