Asheboro 4
Southeast Guilford 3

*****Trey Gilmore 3-4 with two doubles for SEG and Tiger Miller was 2-3 with two singles. Josh Tobias did not play, injured wrist. SEG(5-2) in action again on Tuesday versus Southwestern Randolph and then on Wednesday at Dudley.*****

Southwest Guilford 10
Hillsborough Orange 7

WP:Cal Sutphin
LP:Joe Wincroff

Brock Hudgens pitched a solid 5 2/3 innings for the Cowboys but did not figure in the decision. Brock also led the team in hitting going 2-2 with 3 rbi’s. Elliott Slack was 1-2, Bo Rein had a nice sacrifice bunt late in the game. Cal Sutphin knocked in the first run of the day with a Sac fly. Will Kellam continues to lead the team at the plate extending a rally for the Cowboys with an infield hit. David Inman had a single and an RBI. Andrew Pate also had a hit that brought in a run. Cal Sutphin relieved Brock in the 6th and Ethan Ogburn pitched the 7th for the save.

The Cowboys next week play a big conference game at Parkland on Tuesday at 7. Then they are at home on Wednesday against Casey Jones, Macon Smith, Adam Causey and the boys for Western Guilford – first pitch is again at 7. Then another big conference game at home on Friday vs Austin Blake, Andrew Parker and the rest of their Reagan teammates, again at 7.

Graham 3 Grimsley 2
WP: Tyler Wiles
LP: Kevin Rose (0-1)

A solid pitching performance by Kevin Rose was not enough to get the Whirlies their first win of the season. Rose went the distance scattering 4 singles over 6 innings, but defensive miscues and a lack of offensive production led to the loss. Sawyer Highfill led Grimsley at the plate (2-2, run). Note – Grimsley’s healthy catcher Gabe Dimock did not play in the this game, he needs to play if the Whirlies are going to beat anyone this year!

Westchester 12
Northern Guilford 11

You still have to think that Ragsdale is the top team in the County so far this season and that Northwest Guilford is #2. Who is #3, Southwest or Northern????? SWG lost to Ragsdale by one run and to NWG by two…..The Ragsdale game was 2-1 Tigers over SWG and NWG topped SWG 9-7……SWG topped Hillsborogh Orange 10-7 on Saturday and Orange was a State Championship team in 2008.

Help us out here. How should we stack up these teams?????? Northern has beaten Dudley, Western and I believe NEG and their only loss was to Bartlett Yancey 4-3. Southeast and Dudley should rank up there pretty high too with both teams off to good starts. Western has been battling and Northeast says they are going to make some more noise this coming week.

The action is getting good and we should have decent weather next week and that should mean good afternoons and evenings for HS Baseball.

graham: good pitching, some good small ball scoring winning run without a ball leaving the infield
grimsley: good pitching, no clutch hits, a couple defensive lapses
