Guilford College 7th in the nation in golf

Greensboro, N.C. — The Guilford College men’s golf team was tabbed seventh in the third Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll of the spring season Thursday. Huntingdon College remained at the top of the list, receiving 16 of the 18 first-place votes. Rounding out the top-five are Methodist University (2), Skidmore College (3), Oglethorpe University (4) and Illinois Wesleyan University (5).

Coach Jack Jensen’s Quakers placed third in the Minnesota State Spring Invitational in early March, continuing their sucess from last fall. The Quakers also had a strong showing at the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Mar. 27-29, finishing seventh out of 32 schools.

Junior Peter Latimer (Markinch Fife, Scotland/Madras) has posted the Quakers’ lowest stroke average (75.19) this spring. Senior Burton Wood (Siler City, N.C./Jordan-Matthews (UNC Greensboro)) stands second on the team with a 76.13, followed by junior Brian Creghan’s (Radnor, Pa./Conestoga) 76.19 average.

Guilford returns to action April 6-7 at the West Regional Invitational in Round Rock, Texas.
