Former Greensboro Grasshopper Graham Taylor got his first major league start for the Florida Marlins this afternoon in the mid-day matchup with the Jamie Moyer and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Phillies lead the Marlins 8-1 in the bottom of the 7th…..
*****Taylor #’s today in his first MLB start:
Taylor 3.2 Innings, 4 Runs, 4 Hits, 4 Earned Runs, 2 K’s, 6 BB’s, 0 HR’s, 9.82 ERA…..*****

Taylor who was known for his quick one hour and forty-five minute games at First Horizon Park got the 12 noon start for the Fish. Back in 2007 with the Hoppers, the man skipper Edwin Rodriguez called Gra-ham Taylor, had three complete games and two of those were back-to-back nine inning complete games and one Friday night Taylor was working so quick he got the game done in 1:39 and they had to hold up and entertain the crowd as the staff waited for it to get dark so they could shoot off the fireworks……

Here’s some inside on Taylor from mlb.com:
Called upon to temporarily take the place of injured starter Andrew Miller (oblique strain) in the rotation is expected to be Taylor, who would be making his first career Major League start in the series finale against the Phillies. The 24-year-old Taylor, a 10th-round pick by the Marlins in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, owns a 3.08 ERA in four seasons in the Minor Leagues. In three starts for Double-A Jacksonville this season, Taylor’s ERA is at 3.24, having struck out 10 while walking six in 16 2/3 innings.

Last year, the Kentucky native pitched mostly for Class A Jupiter, where he went 11-6 with a 3.46 ERA in 23 games — 22 starts — for the Hammerheads. Taylor, who last pitched on Monday, wasn’t in big league camp with the Marlins this spring but did start one Spring Training game, pitching three perfect innings. Taylor is known mostly a pitch-to-contact guy who possesses great control but not overpowering stuff.

Throughout his Minor League career, he’s averaged 1.4 walks per nine innings while striking out 6.6. With Miller not eligible to come off his disabled-list stint until May 6, Taylor could make two or three starts for Florida.
