On the road in Jamestown

Tonight before the Ragsdale High School baseball game-my alma mater-the school will retire 3 baseball numbers. One of them was a friend of mine who played and coached at Ragsdale and died of a rare cancer at 56 years of age, two years ago, Ronnie Smith. The other two are recent player numbers.

Ragsdale’s coach, Donnie Manness has asked me to M.C. the retirement formalities before the start of the game. There should be some local media in attendance, along with the families, friends and fans of Ragsdale baseball. I will have my GOLD’S GYM shirt on,  to represent the fitness center.

  1. It was nice to meet you tonight Jim. Unfortunately I missed the pre-game ceremony although I could hear you over the PA over at the lacrosse game.

BTW – Ragsdale won the game 8 – 1 . David Coffey pitched four innings (two hits, 2 walks eight strikeouts) for his seventh win on senior night. Eric Maynard took the loss. Ragsdale was led at the plate by Ben Fultz (2-3, DB, 2 RBIs, run scored), Kyle Brandenburg (2-4, triple, RBI, two runs scored). David Coffey was 1-2 with 2 RBIs. Randleman scored on a Bradley Holland solo HR in the fourth.

Ragsdale is now 19-2, 10-1 and closes out the regular season Thursday night at SE Guilford.

  2. I wasn’t aware they had retired numbers – but I know the two other players honored were Trevor Mullins and Chad Baker.
