HS Baseball Tonight

On Senior Night at Grimsley battery mates Kevin Rose and Gabe Dimock kept the Whirlies close for 4 innings. But the combination of an ineffective bullpen, quiet bats, and defensive miscues doomed Grimsley.

Rose was effective in limiting the powerful Vikings to 3 runs (2 earned) over 4 innings of work, and Dimock helped his teammate with a crucial throw to second to catch a runner attempting to steal in the first inning. Dimock also contributed with his bat, plating 2 runs in the 7th inning with a 2-out single.

The Vikings’ Stephen Mekita was also effective on the mound going 5 inings for the win. Mekita surrendered 1 run on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. NW was led offensively by Alex Swim (2-3. 1 run, 1 RBI) and Robbie McIntosh (3-5, 1 run, 1 RBI).

NW improves to 17-3 overall, 9-1 in conference play. Grimsley falls to 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the conference. The Metro 4A tournament begins next week.

  1. NW played their bench in the 7th, 9-1 starting the final inning. NW showed a lot of class by doing so.

  2. I don’t know many teams that don’t play their bench when they are ahead by 8 runs.

  3. Congratulations to Coach Gann and the Northwest Vikings on a very good regular season. Looking forward to the Metro 4A conference tourney that starts next Friday through Monday and the states that start the Thursday after the conference tourney. May you have swift feet, sure hands, strong arms, and strong bats. Again, congrats on the season and all the best in the tourneys. Finish strong!!!!!

  4. Based on our info, records are correct for Rockingham County and Bartlett Yancey and the entire Triad 3-A Conference is tight.

Western Guilford is #1 going into the tournament with Dudley, RC, BY, and even WA tight. I am not sure about Northern’s record but they are in the mix at the top as well and I think they might be in the #2 spot at 9-5……

Feel free to correct us if we are off base, but that is what we have so far.

Conference tournament at Stoner-White Stadium next week and I do believe it begins on Tuesday but that might be Thursday. Got to get my T’s in order and my contact man T, at the ballpark will have to get me straight on this one.

Would you run a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or make it a Thursday, Friday, Saturday tournament? Morehead out and everybody else in or do have Morehead play and Western get a first round bye?

As we approach the playoffs the setups are more interesting.

  5. 1st round games for the Triad 3A tournament are at higher seeded home fields. Morehead is at Western Tuesday 7:00 PM. Stoner White will host Thursday and Friday.

    Here is how it goes:
Rockingham(8-5) @ BY(8-5) will have an effect on seedings # 2-5 depending on who wins.
Both teams can finish tied for 2nd at 9-5 with Northern.
BY would have the head to head over Northern .
Rockingham would have to go to the 2nd tiebreaker since they split in the regular season with Northern.

With a lost BY could drop all the way to fifth due to Dudley taking both meetings this year.
With a lost Rockingham would take fourth since they took both regular season games over Dudleythis year.

  7. Thanks T. I knew we could count on you. It is still a mathematical mystery going into that 5pm matchup.

Very big game today at BY.

Let us know if you hear anything.

    Thanks again,
