Southeast Guilford over Trinity last night 11-10 and did Trey Gilmore go on to get the win? Asheboro-ER and SWR-Randleman on hold for tonight and all of this evening’s games may end up with our teams back in the clubhouse or the locker room.

We had the schedule posted yesterday and we will re-post it as it is supposed to go today and we have news on the Ash.-ER and SWR-Rand. games from the Asheboro Courier-Tribune and we could use so stats and numbers on SEG-Trinity from last night and the real summarization on how Trinity climbed back into that game, as SEG was in total control through four-and-half innings.

Details from the other MPC games that were halted last night by rain. Info from the Asheboro Courier Tribune, see link for all of this news at the end of the stories.

ASHEBORO — Making an unscheduled return trip to McCrary Park today doesn’t phase Eastern Randolph High School varsity baseball coach Neill Kivett.

What will upset him, he said, is if his team doesn’t come out and play better defensively than they did Monday night. Of course, Asheboro High School coach Tim Murray can say just about the same thing.

The first round of the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament will resume today at 5 p.m.(weather permitting) with the Wildcats holding a 5-4 lead over the Blue Comets. Play will pick up at the start of the fifth with ER’s Tucker Coward, Dalton Clark and Caleb Kidd the three scheduled hitters.

“Both teams have made mistakes to put them in this position,” said Kivett after watching his team and the Blue Comets commit three errors each in the early going. “If we play good, solid defense and we get beat, then I’m going to go over there and congratulate Coach Murray and walk out of here with my head held high. We just have to quit beating ourselves.”

The six errors have led to two unearned runs for each team.

“Maybe this is an advantage for us,” said Murray. “I don’t think we’ve been playing particularly well. Maybe it will work for us. It will be a new challenge, new life.”

ASHEBORO — Randleman and Southwestern Randolph’s varsity baseball teams tried to decide who was going to make it to the state playoffs Monday night in the first round of the Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament.

Mother Nature had other plans.

The teams, tied for fourth, played in the rain for 31/2 innings before the game was called in the bottom of the fourth with SWR up 5-1, the bases loaded with one out and the Cougars’ Nolan Seawell facing an 0-1 count at the plate. It resumes today at 5 p.m. at SWRHS.

“I wanted to be done,” Cougars coach Chris Cook said. “Now, anything can happen. There may be pitching changes. I don’t know if it’ll be a disadvantage or advantage for anybody.”

Seawell was still on the mound for SWR (5-7, 9-9), having allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

At the plate, the Cougars had amassed five hits, including a two-run home run by Hunter Ridge — his sixth of the season — in the first and a solo shot by Jake Hall in the third.
