Many more honors for Clint Moore

Clint Moore(Grimsley HS Class of 2007)

Co-Army Athlete of the Week and today named to the All-Patriot League squad for the 2009 season, this has been a great follow-up year for the sophomore who grew up here in Greensborosports.com land.

You can now add another to long list of honors coming in for Clint Moore:
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The honors continue to pour in for Army sophomore shortstop Clint Moore and the latest is a spot on the National Allstar Lineup.

The first week in May saw Moore honored four times, starting with being named the Patriot League Player of the Week, the Army Athletic Association co-Athlete of the Week, along with first-team honors at shortstop on the All-Patriot League teams.

The most recent honor for Moore was being named to the College Baseball Foundation and Diamond Sports Week 11 National Allstar Lineup after helping Army to a 4-0 week.

The 15-player National Allstar Lineup features three pitchers who threw no-hitters (Alex Wimmers, Ohio State, Keegan Dennis, Evansville and Paul Duncan, Eastern Kentucky) and Kansas State head coach Brad Hill who earned his 600th career victory.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – A pair of sophomores were named as the Army Athletic Association Co-Athletes of the Week on Monday as hurdler Domonick Sylve was dominant at the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday and shortstop Clint Moore posted yet another stellar week at the plate.

Moore hit .533 (8-for-15) as the Black Knights won four games this week. He posted two doubles, one triple, three home runs, nine runs scored and 13 runs batted in.

The Greensboro, N.C. (Grimsley, H.S.) native slugged 1.400 with a .636 on-base percentage and homered in three straight games. He narrowly missed a grand slam in the only game he did not homer. Against NJIT, he hit a two-run home run and a grand slam on Saturday and contributed to the sweep with a three-run shot on Sunday when he reached base in all six a-bats and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Army, 28-17, will close its regular season on Wednesday, hosting New York Tech.

Moore named to the All Patriot League squad:

A strong contender for Patriot League Player of the Year honors, Clint Moore followed up a terrific freshman season with an even better sophomore showing. Chosen conference rookie of the year last spring, Moore is batting .410 with 15 doubles, five triples, nine home runs, 49 runs scored and 58 runs batted in this year. He has authored a .771 slugging percentage and a .497 on-base mark.

Moore currently tops the Patriot League in triples (5), runs scored (49), runs batted in (58) and slugging percentage (.771). He ranks second in total bases (111) and on-base percentage (.497), and lists third in batting average (.410) and doubles (15).

The Greensboro, N.C. (Grimsley H.S.), native batted .433 with seven doubles, three triples, three homers, 23 runs scored and 28 RBI in 20 Patriot League contests, posting a .761 slugging percentage and .488 on-base percentage in those games. Moore batted .464 with runners in scoring position during league play, collecting 10 multi-hit games and nine multiple-RBI showings. He batted safely in 17 of 20 conference games, including 11 in a row to close out the slate.

Moore, who is batting .410 with runners in scoring position overall, stands within a handful of Army single season individual records. He needs three home runs, nine RBI, four doubles, two triples and 16 total bases to equal existing school standards in those respective categories.

He has already tied the single season school record for most multiple-RBI games in a single season with 18 and stands two shy of the school’s single-season record for multi-hit contests, which currently stands at 23.

Currently entrenched in the finest stretch of his collegiate career, Moore will carry a 12-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s game against New York Tech. He is batting .581 with three doubles, three triples, six home runs, 21 runs scored and 26 runs batted in during his last nine contests and was named Patriot League Player of Week on Monday.

  1. Clint MIGHT have a tough decision coming up. I did not realize this until my business partner shared this with me (he is a West Point grad and his brother is a tactical commander at West Point currently) but you are not committed to the Army until approximately the 1st day of your Jr. year. Up until then you can opt out. But once you are there that first day they say something to the effect of, “welcome to the armed services of the US”, or something like that. Clint is doing so well he could opt out and then get drafted in a year. I don’t know Clint personally but I doubt this happens. But he sure has done well. Army alumni are very proud of him.

  2. I say it everytime I get info on Clint. He called me 2 weeks ago and keeps me somewhat updated. NOTHING CLINT MOORE EVER DOES WOULD SURPRISE ME! Army Officer, Major League Baseball Player or even President of The United States. Whatever, I expect it from Clint! A great kid from a great family and the hardest working kid I have ever coached and one of the best kids I have ever known. GOOD LUCK IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT!
