It was hot and there was a threat of rain and the game didn’t get rolling until 2pm, but when it did the fans got to see a full afternoon’s worth of baseball as Rockingham County topped Northern Guilford for the Triad 3-A Tournament title at Stoner-White inside Jaycee Park.

There was no way I was going to make that original 1pm first pitch and since this one didn’t get moving full steam until 2pm, all the Nighthawk and Cougar fans had plenty to yell about.

Rockingham County jumped on top early and they carried an 8-2 lead into the sixth inning and that’s when Northern got cranking and moved in front 9-8 as the game headed to the top of the 7th.

In the top of seven, RC pushed four runs across the plate to take over the ball game with their 12-9 lead. NG could find no counter in the bottom of the inning and the RC Cougars are your Triad 3-A Conference Champions after a warm Saturday at Jaycee Park.

The number of pitchers that worked this game are more than I can remember and here are a few of names. For NG we saw Justin Caudle, Jeremy Campbell, Sean Maas and one more hurler and for Rockingham County, Tyler Burchette got the start and then they went to their bullpen somewhere around the sixth inning.

RC had thoughts, if not intentions, of bringing in Friday’s winning pitcher, Ryan Mitchell and Northern was leaning toward letting the fans get one look at George Carter, who got the win last night for NG against NEG.

All in all another wild one and when you start to run out of pitching you have to make some moves and often make them quick or they may become, “Night Moves”, unless those rains came and suspended today’s action and sent it to Monday. No “Night Moves”, and no rain delays and this goes final with Rockingham County over Northern Guilford 12-9.

LINESCORE:
RC:12-14-2
NG:9-8-1

*****Word around the ballpark was that Northern would now have to hit the road for round one of the playoffs next Friday and would be facing either Rocky Mount or Nothern Nash. Those two teams were playing for their conference champoinship this afternoon.

We are also hearing that Dudley will be at Southern Alamance for Round One.*****

+++++From the Triad 3-A Conference you now have:
#1 Western Guilford
#2 Rockingham County
#3 Bartlett Yancey
# 4 Northern Guilford+++++

    Great game to watch. Went down to the final inning with northern leading by one but the inexperience got the best of them after losing the lead with 2 outs. Congratulations on a much improved northern baseball program and congratulations to Rockingham on their victory.
