RALEIGH – Seven different players had multi-hit games for Mayodan Dalton McMichael as the Fighting Phoenix blasted Morganton Patton 16-6 in five innings on Friday night in the opening game of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A baseball championship series at Doak Field at North Carolina State University.
McMichael banged out 18 hits in the game, which was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

The Phoenix chased four runs across in the first off losing pitcher Aaron Attaway and then sent 12 men to the plate in an eight-run second that put the game away.

Ethan Satterfield, who entered the game batting .413, and Corey Shelton each had three hits in four trips to the plate for the winners. Satterfield had a solo homer in the fourth while Shelton and Steven Trant each had three runs batted in.

Every McMichael player in the starting lineup hit safely as the Phoenix improved their overall record to 26-6 while Patton is now 27-8.

Patton¹s Nick Newton blasted a three-run homer in the second to cut the deficit to 4-3 before McMichael blew it open.

Joseph Hughes went the route on the mound for the Phoenix to earn his 10th victory in 11 decisions, striking out nine and walking just one while allowing three earned runs.

Did Hughes pitch all 5? If he did he will have to rest today . Patton did not throw their ace and will today. This may be Patton’s strategy, to get rid of Hughes in game 1 and take games 2 and 3. I would have thrown Hughes in game 2.

what kind of shenanigan’s did Patton pull to get this far in the playoffs ? 🙂

they have only been open 2 years? they do not deserve to be there because they have not put their “dues” in…(kidding of course)
