Jacob Cadle, Wyatt Medlin, Brandon Matthews and Grant Kelley have committed to attend Greensboro College and play baseball for The Pride, announced Coach Ken Carlyle.
Medlin is a first baseman who played at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh. An honorable mention all-conference honoree, Medlin batted .366 with 4 home runs and 6 doubles as a senior. He was also a Academic All Conference selection.
Cadle played at Westchester Country Day in High Point. He is 6-5, 235 pounds and plays first base and is a left-handed pitcher. The two-time team MVP and all conference pick batted .496 with 3 home runs and 17 doubles. The southpaw posted a 1.70 earned run average and a 5-3 record on the mound.
Matthews is pitcher/shortstop from Norfolk Collegiate High School in Virginia. He had a 6-2 record as a hurler and batted .400 at the plate. The team MVP was also a first team 1st Team All Conference and National Honor Society honoree.
Kelley is a versatile athlete who can play third base, first base and pitcher. He transfers to GC as a junior from Pitt Community College. He hit .277 with 8 home runs and 37 RBI at PCC as a sophomore.
“We were looking for quality student athletes who love to play the game and are willing to work just as hard in the classroom, said Carlyle. “I think these 4 young men are just what we need. I am expecting big things from all of these guys immediately when they hit the field in the fall.”
GC posted a 16-21 record and had 8 losses by 2 runs or less this past season.
I am excited about the 2009 class and still have about 15 more on the way!
