Kernersville Bulldogs having a great season at 23-1

The Wooden bats are blasting as the Bulldogs take two from Fuquay Varina and now sit at (23-1) overall and (19-1) CVCL……from www.kernersvillecollegiate.com:

The Kernersville Bulldogs defeated the Fuquay Varina Twins on Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten in the CVCL. In game one, the Bulldogs would use the strong pitching from starter Mark Adzick to hold the Twins to only one run.

Trailing 1-0 through three innings, the Bulldog offense came alive in the fourth and were able to post two runs on the board. John Neese(NWG) led off with a walk and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice groundout by Cody Walker(Grimsley). Myles Pearl followed, driving in Neese for the first Bulldog run of the game. Pearl later scored on a single by Brandon McKinney(NWG).

The Bulldogs tacked on two additional runs in the fifth and and three runs in the sixth to ensure the 7-1 victory over the Twins. The Bulldogs were led offensively by Brandon McKinney who went 2-for-2 with and RBI and run scored and Daniel Coffey, 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Adzick hurled five strong innings for the Bulldogs, surrendering only one unearned run, five hits and striking out seven Twin hitters. Nick Rogers(NWG) tossed the final two innings, giving up only one hit. Adzick picked up his fourth win of the season, extending his record to 4-0. Rogers picked up his fifth save of the season.

In game two, the Bulldogs once again fell behind early in the game, but would use a late offensive attack to come away with a 10-3 victory. Fuquay took the early lead, posting two runs in the first inning. It was not until the third inning that the Bulldogs would take the lead, posting three runs to take the 4-2 lead over the Twins. Mike Parker led off the third inning with a triple down the right field line. Parker scored on a groundout by Alex Starbuck(East Forsyth). Daniel Coffey followed with a double and advanced to third on a single by Aaron Jones(Grimsley/Gospel Light). Cody Walker scored Coffey on a sacrifice fly to center to score the go-ahead run for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs would later post two runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning. Offensive leaders in game two included Mike Parker(Greensboro College), Daniel Coffey, Aaron Jones and Cody Walker, all of which had multi-hit performances. Cody Walker had a game high of 4 RBIs for the Bulldogs.

The combined pitching of Jacob Moore, JD Dudding, and Adam Hart held the Twins to only six hits. JD Dudding picked up the win in game two, extending his record to 2-0 on the season.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday night(TONIGHT) at 5:30 PM as they take on CVCL opponent, Carolina Hurricanes.
